Pastor Bill's Foundations Class Begins October 15th!

The next session of PB's Foundations class will start on October 15th. Assuming Wednesdays work for those wanting to join the class, we will meet you on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30pm.

If you are interested in joining SLC, this class would be required (unless you are transferring from another ELCA congregation), or the class is a great way to brush up on your faith too if you are already a member!

Please complete the form or email the Office Staff if you are interested in participating.

Thursday Bible Study

October 9th @ 10:30am

PB is on vacation but we have a great Guest Leader - Pastor Jonathan!

Subject: John 2 "Wedding at Cana"

Pentecost 18 - Sunday, October 12

We are taught to listen to the voices of the powerful, and our ears are tuned to turn to the voices of the loud. Has there ever been so much shouting on the radio, the TV, even the grocery store? This week we are invited to tune in to the small and unexpected voices that lead us to see true power and presence in our world, the voice of God. We'll explore two healing stories that tell us a lot about God and about our relationship to the holy and to one another. See you Sunday!

Sermon:

"Up From the Bottom"

by Pastor Jonathan Sansgaard

Readings:

2 Kings 5:1-15

Luke 17:11-19

October Tune of the Month

The song's meaning emphasizes that in the face of suffering and uncertainty, Jesus provides a powerful rescue and rest, reminding listeners of God's overwhelming love and ability to carry their worries.

The accompanying music video illustrates this meaning by depicting characters in vulnerable moments of loss and hardship who are ultimately lifted by God's metaphorical "shoulders."

While it may not have a chorale texture, the hope is that singing it each Sunday with our variety of musicians will give you an appreciation for this great song, and that you can sing it well.

Scotland & Ireland Tour –

Cost and Overview

Dear SLC Members and Friends,

Over the past ten years, I’ve had the joy of leading trips with Faith Based Expeditions to Israel, Greece, Rome, and Germany. For our next adventure, there’s strong interest in a tour of Scotland and Ireland, and I’m hopeful we can make it happen next summer!

Due to currency exchange rates and the extended itinerary (three days longer than past trips), the cost is higher than usual. A document outlining pricing and inclusions is below. (Scotland/Ireland Cost & Overview)

Before finalizing plans, I need to gauge interest. We’ll need at least 20 participants to move forward. If you’re still interested despite the increased cost, please let me know using the link below. This is not a registration or financial commitment—just a way to see if we have enough travelers.

Thank you for your continued enthusiasm for these faith-filled journeys and the fellowship they inspire. In Christ, Pastor Bill

From Russ Goodman – CEO of FBE: The prices in other countries such as Israel, Greece, and Turkey is always in US dollars. The currency as in Scotland, is in Pound Sterling and Euro in Ireland. As of this morning, the below chart shows that it takes $1.35 US dollar for each Pound Sterling and it takes $1.17 US dollar for each Euro. The US dollar simply does not go as far in these two countries as it does in other countries we travel to. This is why the cost in these two countries is simply more expensive than the other noted countries we travel to. The currency rate in each of these countries changes every day. It is very difficult what the rate will be by the time the final payment for the tour is charged.

A note from our music director...

You will not want to miss this concert! Two matinees--Saturday, November 15th and Sunday, November 16th at 3:00pm. Tickets are now on sale for $25 at the Bremerton West Sound Symphony website.

I anticipate this concert will sell out so get your tickets early!

The capstone of our celebration of the new organ at SLC is coming up. In the years following the installation of the instrument, I hosted regular concerts. The two concerts in November are the big finale (although we will still have more concerts). The organ will be celebrated by well over 100 musicians from the Bremerton West Sound Symphony and Chorale. The room will be packed and filled with perhaps the most glorious music that has ever graced these rafters, the Symphony no. 3 in C minor by Camille Saint-Saëns. When the organ at Notre Dame was restored and dedicated last year, what piece of music was the only thing that could properly celebrate it? Saint-Saëns 3! This is a gigantic opportunity for me as an organist and a huge honor for the church. I will be playing a fabulous solo organ encore as well.

Do you love to knit or crochet?

SLC will be sharing hats and scarves with the Birkenfeld Stella Maris Shelter for women and children this Christmas season. The shelter houses 30 women and children. Depending on the number of hats/scarves we receive, we will also share them with other folks in need of caring warmth in our community.

All hats and scarves need to be brought to the church office by Sunday, November 30th. The gifts for the shelter will be put together at the "God's work. Our hands." Christmas event on Wednesday, December 3rd.

Please let Cathy Bohman, SLC Community Connector, know if you will be a part of this servant project at connector@silverdalelutheran.org.

Thanks for using your creative hands to make a difference!

Fall Women's Retreat

November 1st, 2025!

"Peace I leave with you;

my peace I give to you.

Not as the world gives

do I give to you."

Jn 14:27

How is your peace? The list of things that drain our peace goes on and on. Christians experience the stress of these issues not only in our own lives, but our hearts go out to our fellow humans who are living in unrest and who are weary from worry.

In the midst of our fear and anxiety, Jesus offers us a peace the world cannot give. Join the women of VLC and SLC for a day of worship, renewal, and fellowship in God's reassuring Word.

Fall Women's Retreat at Vinland Lutheran Church
