Walk to End Alzheimers's

Saturday, October 11th - Silverdale Waterfront

For the third year in a row, we represent Silverdale Lutheran Church at the Kitsap Alzheimer's Walk. We honor those in our congregation who are living with Alzheimer's, those who are supporting people with the disease, and those we have lost.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  1. Join the Team! Register for the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer's - Kitsap Peninsula
  2. DONATE - sign up to donate for a specific person or the SLC team!

Pastor Bill's Foundations Class Begins October 15th!

The next session of PB's Foundations class will start on October 15th. Assuming Wednesdays work for those wanting to join the class, we will meet you on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30pm.

If you are interested in joining SLC, this class would be required (unless you are transferring from another ELCA congregation), or the class is a great way to brush up on your faith too if you are already a member!

Please complete the form or email the Office Staff if you are interested in participating.

A note from our music director...

The capstone of our celebration of the new organ at SLC is coming up. In the years following the installation of the instrument, I hosted regular concerts. The two concerts in November are the big finale (although we will still have more concerts). The organ will be celebrated by well over 100 musicians from the Bremerton West Sound Symphony and Chorale. The room will be packed and filled with perhaps the most glorious music that has ever graced these rafters, the Symphony no. 3 in C minor by Camille Saint-Saëns. When the organ at Notre Dame was restored and dedicated last year, what piece of music was the only thing that could properly celebrate it? Saint-Saëns 3! This is a gigantic opportunity for me as an organist and a huge honor for the church. I will be playing a fabulous solo organ encore as well.

You will not want to miss this concert! Two matinees--Saturday, November 15th and Sunday, November 16th at 3:00pm. Tickets are now on sale for $25 at the Bremerton West Sound Symphony website.

I anticipate this concert will sell out so get your tickets early!

Don't do online purchases or need assistance?

Stop by the Narthex between services this Sunday and look for Kathleen to help you purchase the tickets.

Not here this Sunday? Stop by the church office Monday - Thursday.

Pentecost 17 - Sunday, October 5

This week we focus on faith. The reading from Habakkuk is crucial as we are told the “righteous shall live by faith.” Jesus says even faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. Come to worship and have your faith renewed!

PB’s Sunday Adult Education Class Oct 5

Fellowship Hall 9:45am (between services)

This Sunday, as we arrive at the Council of Nicaea, we will examine the arguments between Arius and Athanasius regarding our confession of Jesus’ divinity. We will especially focus on the scriptures that shaped their positions and consider their relevance for us today.

October Tune of the Month

The song's meaning emphasizes that in the face of suffering and uncertainty, Jesus provides a powerful rescue and rest, reminding listeners of God's overwhelming love and ability to carry their worries.

The accompanying music video illustrates this meaning by depicting characters in vulnerable moments of loss and hardship who are ultimately lifted by God's metaphorical "shoulders."

While it may not have a chorale texture, the hope is that singing it each Sunday with our variety of musicians will give you an appreciation for this great song, and that you can sing it well.

Reminder: We collect donations on the first Sunday of every month! Please bring any donations you might have with you on Sunday, October 5th.

Thank you for your contributions to the Central Kitsap Food Bank. We continue to love Kitsap with our donations of canned and packaged goods. Families in need are grateful for our help. Please place your donations in the basket in the Narthex or behind the curtain in Fellowship Hall.

Tables of Eight is a monthly dinner/meal hosted by a parishioner. The host is responsible for the main course and the other attendees provide the appetizer, salad and dessert. It is a great way to break bread and get to know each other.

We are looking to see who is interested in participating in Tables of Eight.

Financial Secretary Update

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Bradley Posadas for faithfully serving as our Financial Secretary over the past year. Bradley has done an excellent job in this important role but is now stepping down.

We are pleased to share that the Church Council has approved Kathleen Johnson as our next Financial Secretary. With part-time support in the office, Kathleen is able to take on this responsibility as a volunteer. Having this role based in the office also makes communication with members much easier.

Special note: Questions about offerings and statements will now be handled in the church office - reach diretly by phone (564) 233-5317 or email slc@silverdalelutheran.org.

(The financial@silverdalelutheran.org will no longer be used)

Fall Women's Retreat

November 1st, 2025!

"Peace I leave with you;

my peace I give to you.

Not as the world gives

do I give to you."

Jn 14:27

How is your peace? The list of things that drain our peace goes on and on. Christians experience the stress of these issues not only in our own lives, but our hearts go out to our fellow humans who are living in unrest and who are weary from worry.

In the midst of our fear and anxiety, Jesus offers us a peace the world cannot give. Join the women of VLC and SLC for a day of worship, renewal, and fellowship in God's reassuring Word.
