Feast of Creation Prayer Service

You’re Invited!

You’re invited to participate via YouTube in a

Feast of Creation Prayer Service

September 1

This service is offered by the EcoFaith Action Network of the Northwest Intermountain Synod. The service will premiere on their YouTube Channel at 9:00am PT/10:00am MT and will be available to view anytime afterward. Subscribe to the EcoFaith Action Network’s YouTube channel HERE.

The Feast of Creation (also being called Feast of Creation in Christ) is the first new, ecumenical feast day proposed for the lectionary since the 1920’s! Its focus is on the mystery of God’s creative act and the sacramental and covenantal gift of Creation.

More information about the proposed feast is available HERE. In addition to EcoFaith’s prayer service, you can find resources to commemorate the Festival of Creation in Christ at your ministry site HERE and in this ELCA liturgy guide for the festival.

Because You Are Curious

An EcoFaith Conversation about

Solar for the Good of the World

featuring Bishop Meggan Manlove and Bill McKibben

 Thursday, September 3 on Zoom

 3 pm PDT  I   4 pm MDT

Join Bishop Meggan Manlove and Bill McKibben in conversation on September 3 to talk about the biggest thing shaping the future of humanity in our lifetime. The sun.

If you’ve ever wondered if solar has a place in your home, your church, your community,

this conversation will let the sun shine in!

We’ll look through the lens of faith to see all energy as sacred gift, learn how solar is changing lives around the world, and take a close-up look at a solar-powered congregation right here in our synod.

Be curious. Bring your questions. Because curiosity, like the sun, is a God-given natural resource, given for the good of the world. Register and we’ll welcome you to the conversation with a zoom link.

Because You’re Curious is a zoom conversation organized by the NWIM EcoFaith Action Network, a group of curious people joyfully living into a life of Earthcare as part of our faithful witness.  Bill McKibben’s contribution will come in the form of video clips from our webinar earlier this year that featured his latest book, Here Comes the Sun.

God's Work Our Hands

One month away! On Sunday, Sept. 13, congregations of the ELCA will gather for our annual day of service, “God’s work. Our hands.” This day offers an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the ELCA — one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Through the years, we have embraced “God’s work. Our hands.” as a way for us to be church together. Being church together means being connected, as we recognize our shared calling and our shared responsibility across congregations, synods and the churchwide organization.

As you explore opportunities to participate in your community, consult these resources to plan and promote your day:

  • Planning tool kit
  • Worship resources
  • Slides for projection screens or online worship
  • Posters and social media graphics
  • Spanish-language resources
  • Promotional banners
  • Videos
  • Special hymn text, sheet music and recording.
  • Old Lutheran has “God’s work. Our hands.” T-shirts and other items available for purchase. The deadline for ordering your congregation’s personalized T-shirts is Wednesday, Aug.19.

Don’t forget to share your congregation’s participation with us! Send stories and photos to LivingLutheran@elca.org so that together we can celebrate what God accomplishes through you.

Participate on social media, using #GodsWorkOurHands.

If your congregation cannot participate on Sept. 13, we encourage you to consider another day for your service activities.

“God’s work. Our hands.” is an extension of the work you do every day to make your community a better place. We look forward to working with you on Sept. 13!

Go in peace. Serve the Lord!

Conscience and Conversation:

A Study During the Reconsideration of the Social Statement

Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust

The task force leading the ELCA in reconsideration of a subsection of the social statement Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust  has released a new study to foster conversation across this church and to generate feedback that will guide its work. The study, “Conscience and Conversation: A Study During the Reconsideration of the Social Statement Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust,” invites reflection on agreement and disagreement in a church called to pursue justice and peace together through “the unity of the Spirit” (Ephesians 4:3).

Please prayerfully consider leading your congregation or small group in this study. Your feedback is essential as the task force prepares a first draft of the social statement for the church to consider. The survey is open until Sept. 30

Boise State Campus Ministry

Sophia’s Table

An ecumenical campus ministry at Boise State University

supported by the UMC, ELCA, and PCUSA

Sophia's Table is an open and affirming ministry where students build real relationships, honor lived experience, and grow together in faith, love, and community.

To prepare for the upcoming semester, the Sophia's Table board has created a referral form to send out to local congregations and regional denominational offices.

This is an opportunity for people to tell the ministry about students they know who will be attending Boise State this fall who might be interested in Sophia's Table so that our campus minister, Pr. Hannah, can get connected with them when school starts.

Evangelism as Belonging

ELCA Evangelism Network Blog

Why the First and Last 10 Minutes Matter in Creating an Invitational Church by Rev. Dr. Moses D. Barrios

ELCA EVANGELISM NETWORK

AUG 03, 2026

Belonging is Evangelism

The historical narrative of my great-grand mother goes something like this: In the late 1950s an indigenous woman from El Salvador, small in stature, but large in passion, would daily fill small plastic bags with rice and beans prior to traveling on the bus (el camion). She would spend the day sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with words, but those plastic bags of rice and beans represented the action behind the words, food for the body and the soul. It points to the words of John the Baptist, “Whoever has two shirts must share with the one who has none, and whoever has food must do the same.” From this ancestry derives my thinking, my posturing, my ministry and calling.
