USDA WANTS TO KEEP ANIMAL RECORDS SECRET

The US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has  proposed modifications  to the existing system of records that would dramatically curtail transparency of the Agency’s activities and shield violators from public scrutiny. If successful, documents like this Covance inspection report will no longer be available to the public.

Public access to inspection reports has historically been the reason that violations of the Animal Welfare Act (the Act) have become public. The public has a compelling interest in knowing whether individuals and institutions breeding, selling, or using animals are in compliance with the Act.

The change is stealthy; it is not overtly stated. This calls into question the Agency’s motivation for this change.

If you want to read about this in depth, visit More Secrecy for Animal Welfare Act Violators? on our website.

ATTN: MADISON - IS YOUR CHILD EXPECTED TO DISSECT IN SCHOOL?

Our children love animals. Should they be forced to dissect?
Do you want your child to refuse to dissect a rat, cat, fetal pig, or any other animal in school?

Unfortunately in Wisconsin there is no policy or law granting your child the right to opt out of dissection and instead use computer models or other means of learning the material.

However, in Madison there is a dissection policy which mandates that parents be notified if a child will be dissecting and that students are offered alternatives to dissection. Read here.
HEIFFER INTERNATIONAL IS NO FRIEND TO ANIMALS

Listen to Alliance For Animals' board member, Marina Drake, on last month's Commentary, Don't Do Animal Gifting, on WORT-FM Kiosk. Marina explains why organizations like Heiffer International are no friend to animals or the less fortunate. Thank you WORT-FM (89.9) for allowing our voices to be heard.
VINTAGE AFA TEES FOR SALE . . . CHEAP!

Due to the demolition of our long-time office/storage space at 122 State Street in Madison, we were forced to move our storage space to a different location. During our move, our volunteers noticed a box of Vegan Fest t-shirts from our last Fest in 2017 and a limited supply of some retro Alliance t-shirts. We are offering them to you for the cost of shipping plus $2. Visit our SHOP page on the website to see the selection.
REMEMBER ALLIANCE FOR ANIMALS IN YOUR END-OF-YEAR GIVING

We are now an all-volunteer organization. As an all-volunteer organization our overhead is drastically lower, so your donations do much more. Essentially all of every dollar we receive can be used to make the animals’ voices louder.

Your support will mean more TV commercials, billboards, bus ads, radio spots, and whatever else we can do to influence public opinion on how animals should be treated. Please help us do this. Got an idea for an ad topic? Let us know.
