Children's of Alabama Epic Team
Children's of Alabama Transitions to Epic EMR System
Children's of Alabama is pleased to share that we have selected Epic as the new electronic medical record (EMR) vendor to replace our current Allscripts and Sorian EMR systems. With our current EMR vendor contract set to expire, our team evaluated the EMRs other children's hospitals are using nationally and analyzed Children's of Alabama's anticipated long-term needs. We ultimately came to the conclusion that it was time for us to transition to a new EMR platform, which will help to improve the care of our patients, their families’ experience with Children’s and the day-to-day work experience of our employees and providers.

Epic will be fully implemented throughout the Children's Main Campus and Children's South by spring 2023. We will keep you updated on our "Epic Journey" as it rolls out.
Developmental-Behavioral Patients Seen at Sparks Clinic Only Effective Oct. 1
As of October 1, 2021, we will no longer see Developmental-Behavioral patients at the Children’s of Alabama hospital location. We have offered services at two locations for many years – the Sparks Clinic and the Children’s campus. After considering how we can enhance service delivery and be more efficient, we’ve decided to consolidate services into one location. All referred patients will be seen at the Sparks Clinic at 930 20th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35205.
New MRI Protocol For Screening Children Less Than 6 Months Old
The Imaging Department is working to reduce the sedation/anesthesia rate for MRI, especially in very young children. Toward this goal, we have put in place a quick, non-sedated, non-contrast MRI Brain protocol for screening children less than 6 months of age that can be performed at the hospital or the Pediatric Imaging Center at Children’s South.
