Clinical Spotlight: Behavioral Health

This quarter the clinical spotlight focuses on behavioral health services. The number of patients seeking care for behavioral health concerns in outpatient practices, the emergency department and inpatient services has increased dramatically over the last several years. Children’s of Alabama has several programs in place to help outpatient pediatricians guide patients to appropriate support and care. Thank you for sending in questions for behavioral health services! Next month our clinical spotlight will be on specialty clinics and resources offered at Children's of Alabama.  

The expansion of the Children's of Alabama Emergency Department, set to open in March/April of 2023, will add 16 beds to better accommodate behavioral health patients holding in the ED, either awaiting admission or transfer.

The Children’s of Alabama PedsCast is a pediatric sub-specialist peer-to-peer podcast focused on research, innovative programs and advances in pediatric health care at Children’s of Alabama. 

The first three PedsCasts feature speakers Dr. David Askenazi, PICAN, NICKs, Neonatal Dialysis;

All Children's of Alabama physicians are invited to stop by the Physicians Lounge on Thursday, March 16 from 6:30 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. to receive a gift and treats as a token of our appreciation for all you do for the patients and families we serve.

Fall AL- AAP Award Winners Announced

The Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) held its annual awards dinner on Saturday, Sept. 10 in Birmingham. Children's of Alabama hosted the dinner for pediatricians around the state.

Congratulations to Jamie Odrezin, MD, for receiving the Wallace Clyde award. Children's

also presented Jacqueline W. Steward. M.D., FAAP, with the Master Pediatrician Award.

Among others who were recognized for their dedication to caring for children in Alabama were Morissa Ladinsky, MD and Candice Dye, MD, both associate professors in General Pediatrics at UAB.
