Cottleville Designated

Purple Heart City!

Nearly two months ago, Rich Francis, Cottleville City Administrator applied to the Purple Heart organization on behalf of the City of Cottleville to be designated a Purple Heart City in honor of all of the men and women who have selflessly served their country and this community in the Armed Forces. Mr. Francis stated he was happy to prepare the proclamation for the May 2022 Board of Aldermen meeting after speaking with Sydney "Sid" Staton, Commander of the Missouri Purple Heart Chapter 125 out of Fenton, MO. Commander Staton also attended the meeting and spoke to those in attendance regarding the Purple Heart Award which is the oldest military decoration in present use. He stated the Purple Heart, was the first American Service award or decoration made available to the common soldier who was wounded or who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while in action.

Mayor Bob Ronkoski, who feels it is really important to remember our veterans, was especially interested in becoming a designated Purple Heart City as his father, James F. Ronkoski, was a Platoon Sergeant E7 with the United States Army and received a Purple Heart on August 11, 1966 for wounds received in action during the Vietnam war. He also received two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters for meritorious service. You can read more about Sgt. Ronkoski's story of heroism in the pictured general order number 5927 dated October 5, 1966.

In the coming days, signs recognizing Cottleville as a Purple Heart Community will be installed at major entrances to the City of Cottleville. The designation is not only for people who have earned the Purple Heart, but also brings appreciation to all the veterans in our community. We thank you!

During the Month of May the

City of Cottleville

recognized the following employees:

Municipal Clerks Week

(May 1st - May 7th)

The first week in May was Municipal Clerk Week  and Cottleville appreciates all the City Clerks out there as well as the Cottleville City Clerk Amy Lewis!

*The Municipal Clerk is the oldest of public servants in local government. The profession traces back before Biblical times.

**When the early colonists came to America, they set up forms of local government to which they were accustomed, and the office of Clerk was one of the first established.

National Police Week (May 16th - 20th)

A week in May is set aside to honor the men & women who put their lives on the line every day to protect others.

Thank you Chief Steve James and all the CPD officers!

DID YOU KNOW?

Cottleville residents should have their Missouri Driver's License or ID Card issued or renewed with their "Cottleville", Mo address followed by their current zip code. The United States Postal Service and the Missouri Department of Revenue database include these approved zip codes: 63366, 63304 and 63376. These are authorized choices to use for "Cottleville", Mo residents followed by your current zip code on all of your mail AND your Missouri Driver License or ID card. The United States Postal Service Postal approved using "Cottleville, Mo" many years ago for Cottleville residents.

Having identification with your correct and current City name is very beneficial to you as a motor vehicle operator and as a consumer.

Don't pass up your next opportunity to renew your license or ID card with your "Cottleville", Mo address printed on it followed by your current zip code.

All City of Cottleville residents AND businesses should be using

"Cottleville", Mo followed by their current zip code as their City identification, for their permanent address on all utility bills as well as ALL other mail. Using the correct City identification (Cottleville, Mo) with your current zip code could help save YOU money as Cottleville tax rates are often less than neighboring cities!

*Taxes collected and dispersed are often based upon a City zip code. For example, if you are a Cottleville resident and are currently using "St. Peters, Mo" or "St. Charles, Mo" or "O'Fallon, Mo" as your address, you MAY be paying a higher tax rate on your leased vehicle, purchased vehicles, phone bills, utility bills, online purchases, cable bills, gas bills, electric bills, water bills, and other invoices, etc. As a result, you may lose money AND the City of Cottleville may also lose the tax revenue to the wrong City listed on that bill or purchase. Those taxes are used to provide vital services such as parks, police, street repair, street lights, sidewalk repairs and so on.

It is important to note this advisory by the United States Postal Service:

To avoid mail delivery delays, you must always use the correct City and zip code on your mail.

Cottleville, MO 63304 - Cottleville Resident Mail Delivery

Cottleville, MO 63376 - Cottleville Resident Mail Delivery

Cottleville, MO 63366 - Cottleville Resident Mail Delivery

Cottleville, MO 63338 - Cottleville P. O. Boxes Only

Please report any errors or undelivered mail to your postal carrier or local postmaster. Request they make the correction to Cottleville, Mo.

New Projects Underway:

New Street Light Installs Coming

Transformers have been ordered for new street lights to be installed at Dardenne Farms Drive at Highway N as well as Norgate Court at Gutermuth Road.

2022 Street Slab and Sidewalk Repairs & Replacement

In 2021, the City did a massive street slab replacement project throughout the City in area subdivisions. However, after the winter weather thaw and all the salt added to City roadways, more pot holes and erosion have appeared. Slab replacement and repairs will continue in 2022 within the City of Cottleville starting in Madison Park, Rosedale and Timberwood Farms subdivisions. Some work will be done by the St. Charles County Highway Department however, a larger portion of the work will be done by a private contractor selected through a bid process which is now underway.

Weiss Road Pedestrian Crosswalk at Lohmar Lane

Currently, the solar powered signal can only support yellow flashing lights. The upgraded equipment and signal has been ordered and will be installed upon its arrival. This improved cross walk includes a push button as well as red and yellow lights. The goal is to make it a safer crosswalk by stopping traffic with red lights.

Area projects continue:

Hansen Park Irrigation

The City has completed design work and selected a contractor through a bid process to add irrigation at Hansen Park. Construction has begun!

Kochanski Multi Sport Field Irrigation and Revegetation

The City has completed design work to revegetate and add irrigation to the Kochanski Multi Sports Field. A contractor has been selected through a bid process and will soon be given a notice to proceed with construction.

Gutermuth Road & Overpass

MoDOT and the St. Charles County Road Board have finished constructing an overpass on Page/364 at Gutermuth. Landscaping with fountain grasses and liriope are planned to be added to all roundabouts. The "Gutermuth" sign with the City of Cottleville logo has arrived. A contractor has begun construction and installed one sign just last week.

The St. Charles County Road Board has also dedicated funding to straighten and widen Gutermuth Road on to Motherhead Road including an 8 foot wide multi-use trail to be constructed on both sides of Gutermuth Road. Design and right-of- way acquisition continues at this time which has delayed phase 3 of the project. For more information: Gutermuth road phase 3

Hwy N Overlay and New Sidewalk

The City has partnered with the St. Charles County Road Board to provide improvements to Highway N between Mannino's Market and Mid Rivers Mall Drive. Plans include an asphalt overlay, striping and a new sidewalk on the SOUTH side of Highway N. Design and right-of-way work is complete. St. Charles County Road Board has selected a contractor and construction has begun. For more information: Highway N Improvements

Jim Hennessey Trail Extension onto Manors of Meadowlake

At resident requests, the trail and pathway along Highway N, now known as the Jim Hennessey Trail, will be extended to the Manors of Meadowlake subdivision at the western edge of the City limits.

Right-of-way work continues at this time. Upon right-of-way acquisition the City then plans to seek a contractor through a bid process. The trail is part of the Dardenne Greenway and improvements will include an 8 foot wide asphalt trail extension from Dardenne Farms.

Guardrails along Highway N

At residents requests, recently, portions of the new guardrails were installed along the NORTH side of Highway N between the road way and the Jim Hennessey Trail in areas between Colonial Green and Winterbrooke subdivisions.

Storm Water Improvements on Dardenne Farms Drive & near Lac Terre Court

At resident requests, due to deteriorated storm water pipe and or lack of a drainage system, design right-of-way work is complete in an effort to make storm water improvements at the areas of Dardenne Farms Drive as well as in the area of Lac Terre Court. A contractor is now being selected through a bid process with construction beginning soon thereafter.

New Sidewalk and Trail Extension to be Added at

Columbus Pointe Entrance.

The City plans to provide improvements to the Columbus Pointe Subdivision Entrance at Norgate Court with a new sidewalk/trail extension on the east side of Gutermuth Road. Design work is complete while right-of-way acquisition continues. A contractor will then be selected through a bid process.

Mosquitoes and Your Safety

Summertime brings fun in the sun, but it also means pesky critters which can be annoying, and even dangerous. Cottleville contracts with St. Charles County Environmental Service for Mosquito control. If you need to request additional mosquito control in your neighborhood please submit your request using this online form.

Mosquito safety is as easy as A, B, C, D...

Avoid bites---use insect repellent!

Be safe---always follow the repellent label instructions!

Cover up---wear loose, light-colored long sleeves and pants!

Dump---remove standing water around your home to reduce mosquito habitat!

The best way that citizens can help, is to eliminate breeding grounds on their own property. Clogged gutters, potted plant trays, buckets and lids, old tires, garden ponds etc are an oasis of breeding grounds for mosquitos!
