Sacred Ground Circle Journey
The newly formed Sacred Ground Circle at St. Bede's had their opening retreat on Saturday. We met on Zoom from 10am - 3pm with several short breaks and a 30 minute break for lunch. We had a very rich time of sharing our lives and perspectives on race and white privilege, the topics we will be exploring in depth over the coming months. Please keep our circle in your prayers:

Introducing our new Seminarian, Carmie McDonald
This week we welcome our new seminarian, Carmie McDonald. Carmie has just began her first year of studies at Candler School of Theology. She is a postulant for Holy Orders in the Diocese of Atlanta and a member of All Saints', Atlanta. Prior to beginning her seminary studies, Carmie has had a career in historic preservation and the non-profit sector. Fall has always been my favorite season. Growing up in Atlanta, I looked forward to cooler temperatures, the beginning of a new school year, the excitement of gathering with family and friends to celebrate during the holidays and, of course, SEC football. In the life of the church, fall marks the season when we remember and celebrate those we have loved and lost, when we gather together to give thanks for our many blessings and when we anticipate the coming of Christ in our lives in new and unexpected places.
This fall marks the beginning of a new season for my family. Two years ago, my husband, Mark, and I began exploring the possibility of my call to ministry. We have been active members at All Saints' Episcopal Church since moving to Midtown 12 years ago, and our clergy and church family supported us through the formal discernment process. I was made a postulant for the priesthood in the Diocese of Atlanta earlier this year and just this week began classes at Emory's Candler School of Theology. Returning to school means leaving behind a career in historic preservation - a vocation I share with my husband - but it also means looking forward to the new work God is doing in our lives.
While this fall may look different from years past, I am no less excited about the promise it holds. There will still be cooler weather to refresh us, new opportunities to learn, the love of family and friends, and perhaps even a little football. As a community of faith, we will still have opportunities to gather (online), to remember, to give thanks, and to anticipate Christ's coming. I look forward to beginning this new season with you and to discovering what God has in store for each of us as we journey this way together.

Team St. Bede is forming to join the 2020 Georgia 2-day VIRTUAL Walk for Breast Cancer Experience. Virtual means you will walk a total of 30 miles (or whatever distance is feasible for you) but not necessarily in a group and over a period of 2 weeks. To join Team St. Bede, register to walk, and/or donate click on this link:
Beginning Monday, September 21st, you can start racking up your miles for the 2020 2-Day Experience on MoveSpring, our virtual walk platform! You'll still be traveling 30 miles throughout Atlanta, and will still "see" some of our wonderful partners at B'Rest Stops (called "Milestones" in MoveSpring") approximately every 2.5 miles! Each Milestone will unlock video or picture messages to help bring the 2-Day experience to you wherever you are!
MoveSpring works with tracking devices (like FitBit, Apple Watch, etc.) or even just your cell phone to track your steps/miles! You can compete on the mileage leaderboard, and, on the website, there are some really great ideas on how to get support from donors by incorporating MoveSpring features!
On Sunday, October 4th, you can head out with other participants for the final mile, culminating in a Facebook Live Closing Ceremonies Experience at 12:00 pm, so that we can all celebrate together! More details TBA on website as we get closer!
Registration is only $35 (includes access to virtual platform, Victory t-shirt, credentials, and year button), and there are no minimum fundraising requirements for 2020.

What is EfM?
*A program of theological education by extension designed by The School of Theology, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee
*Weekly prayer and worship led by group participants
*Weekly sharing of one's story and life events
*Weekly reading from and brief group discussion of the Hebrew Scriptures (Year 1), or the New Testament (Year 2), or Church History (Year 3) or Theology (Year 4)
*Weekly theological reflection, making connections between our lives, theology and scripture
*Receiving the support and affirmation of a small, committed community to be who we are, to grow in our understanding of and comfort in offering the gifts that we have
*A safe place to ask and to explore any and all questions about God, the church, prayer and the life of faith
*A community that nurtures spiritual, emotional and intellectual growth
Who may participate in EfM?
*Any adult
**When does the EfM group meet?
** Every Monday evening from 7:15-8:45 on Zoom - except for one Monday per month when, instead, we hope to gather on a weekend afternoon, in person, outside, carefully physically distanced, on a date selected by the group members - with time off for holidays.
** These modifications to the usual in person group meetings have been made to enable the group to still gather creatively and carefully during this unusual time of living during the pandemic.
How much is the tuition for EfM?
*Tuition is $375.00 for one year. If seven participants are registered for the group, an eighth person may enroll with a reduced tuition of $160.00.
*The tuition fee covers the cost of the reading materials for the year, the administrative costs of The University of the South to facilitate the program, and provides a small honorarium for the mentors
*Tuition may be paid by a Visa, Mastercard or Discover credit card when one registers for EfM with University of the South, online by way of computer, tablet or smart phone.
Who are the mentors?
*The Rev. Lynnsay A. Buehler, Director of The Julian of Norwich Center. Lynnsay has been an EfM mentor for 32 years.
*Dr. Jo Marie Lyons, a pathologist (trained also as a neurologist) who is a member of The Cathedral of St. Philip and serves on the Advisory Board of The Julian of Norwich Center. She is a graduate of the EfM program and has co-mentored with Lynnsay for 29 years.
How do I register?**

**For the first time, this year, registration is available only online, through a live link provided to the Administrative Mentor (Lynnsay).

Mostly Mysteries Book Group on Zoom

Vestry Establishes
Community Emergency Assistance Fund
In addition to all of the wonderful ways that the Community Engagement Team is leading us in supporting community ministry partners (locally, churchwide, and globally) during this critical time, the Vestry has established a Community Emergency Assistance Fund to help people within the greater St. Bede's community with food assistance during the current public health crisis. This fund will be administered confidentially by the clergy in a similar way as their normal discretionary funds, but will be used exclusively to help with food assistance during this crisis.
UPDATE of August 27: We have distributed over $2,800 in assistance though food and utility support for individuals and families so far during the current public health crisis. The current balance of the fund stands at around $2,100 and new needs continue to present themselves. A dedicated group of members work with Fabio to help identify need and deliver food. Thank you to all who have contributed!
