 Good Day IAWF Supporter,

Thank you for being a part of our circle!

Many of you have become involved in the IAWF through our conferences and symposiums. The IAWF strives to present high quality events around important topics that affect the entire global wildland fire community. Through our conference, we will continue to provide leadership and facilitate communication; improve understanding and link people with shared interests. We will also continue to focus on communicating to practicing fire management professionals.  We encourage you to attend our upcoming conferences, this is a great way to become more involved and network with your fellow IAWF supporters.  If you are unable to attend in person, consider attending the ISS2 Virtual Conference in November.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Justin Beebe, member of the Lolo Hotshots who lost his life fighting a fire in Nevada. This is a tragic and heartbreaking loss and our thoughts are with his family during this very difficult time.

Introversion in Fireline Leadership
by Christine McDonald

It's after dark on a northern fire where dark comes late, and I'm exhausted from a day of winning a little in one area and losing a little in another. My legs are tucked into my sleeping bag for warmth and my headlamp shines down on my field notebook. Before I can rest, I need to make notes in preparation for my morning briefing. It's a quick exercise to write out the objectives and assignments that I've already set in my mind, but this ten-minute nightly ritual is key to keeping my secret as a fireline leader: I am an introvert.

Focus on Research
Enriching Learning Experiences
By Billy Haworth
As I begin to write this in an office at Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) headquarters in Hobart, reflecting on the week I've just had, I am feeling very grateful. For the last three years I have been undertaking PhD studies in the School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney. My research, in the context of community bushfire preparation, engagement and disaster risk reduction, investigates the application, value and implications of emerging technologies that enable increased public creation and exchange of geographic information.
