What's Happening In and Around Melville?
I decided that I would write something different in the newsletter for my article. I wanted to share information about all the great things happening in Melville! Just do a search in google for businesses opening, special events and all kinds of amazing things for you to attend, network or get new business. For example this week in the news for the area:
  • Dime Community Bank held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of its new Melville branch - the bank's first location on Long Island in nearly 40 years. Guess what the Melville Chamber of Commerce was there to welcome them to the area. If you are a member of the Chamber we are contacted regularly to attend special events and it can bring you new business or new contacts so get involved with Melville Chamber and you could be invited to attend these special events.
  • Did you know that Nikon named a new CEO for Americas subsidiary in Melville? According to Newsday: Bo Kajiwara is the new CEO of Nikon Inc., a subsidiary covering North and South America. He had been senior general manager of sales and marketing in Europe. Kajiwara succeeds Toru Iwaoka, who was named president of Nikon Europe BV and a corporate vice president of the parent company. Kajiwara's promotion marks his return to Long Island. He worked here from 2004 to 2013 as head of the imaging division and then vice president of marketing, planning and customer experience. Even though Nikon isn't a member of the Chamber it is important for those doing business in the region to know about organization changes to major corporations. Maybe there is some connection to Nikon that you might be able to create to get new business or invite someone you know from Nikon to a Chamber event. We would love to have them!
  • Tax breaks from New York State for Moving to Suffolk County. More specifically New York State is providing tax breaks and cheap electricity for a computer software developer's move to Suffolk County from Nassau County. LBi Software Inc. will receive up to $300,000 in state tax credits over 10 years if it adds 16 people to its payroll of 47. The assistance was announced Thursday during a ceremony opening LBi's new headquarters in Melville. The 25,200-square-foot building, which is owned by the company, is more than double the amount of space it had been renting in Woodbury. If you are interested in becoming involved in the Chamber's Government Relations committee this is the kind of thing that you might be able to help influence and bring more businesses to Melville. It is great that we are getting a new business who now is able to purchase a building instead of rent. Come to Chamber events to find out more about how you can become involved.
  • Another business expanding to Melville. Long Island's newest Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace will also be the largest. By the time this newsletter gets sent out the ribbon for Uncle Giuseppe's will have been cut in Melville, and customers will enter a 53,000-square-foot store that was formerly Waldbaum's. We wish them good luck in their new store! We hope that you can check them out and see what a great impact they might have on Melville!
If you are interested in becoming more involved in the Chamber to become part of special events, learn about new businesses coming to Melville, advanced notice of ribbon cuttings or just to be part of this great community please contact the Executive Director of the Melville Chamber of Commerce Ted Macaluso at info@melvilechamber.org . We look forward to hearing from you!
