Fall is always a busy time. School is back in session, the days get shorter, and we all get back into the swing of schedules. Same is true at California Women Lead. We ended our summer with a great trip to Washington D.C. with a few board members to talk about upcoming projects we are launching (more on that later), we hosted our East Bay LEADership Academy as well as released our report on the number of women serving in elected office in California (more on that below).
The LEADership Academy has an exciting Fall line-up that you do not want to miss!
The Fresno Academy will be held Friday, September 29th at Fresno State University's Smittcamp Alumni House. The day will kick off with "Getting it Done- Women Leading in Business, Community and Life" with an impressive panel; Esmeralda Soria, Fresno City Council; Anna Brooks, Senior Manager of Government Relations for the Central Valley, PG&E; Lynnette Zelezny, Fresno University's Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs and moderated by Connie Conway, Trustee, California Community College Board. Additional sessions include Developing Your Power Network, Understanding the Legislative Process- Your Voice Matters and Power Speaking for Women. This session includes a Civic Appointments training lead by Appointments Secretary Mona Pasquil from the Office of Governor Edmund J. Brown Jr.!

IMPACT Access Award
Recently, Mona Pasquil, VP of the CA Women Lead Board and Appointment Secretary for Governor Brown along with CEO Rachel Michelin were recognized by the California Commission on the
Status of Women & Girls with their first IMPACT Award. This award recognized Mona & Rachel's commitment to encourage and inspire women to seek appointed office at the local or state level. The IMPACT Access Award exemplified how these two women live the mission of CA Women Lead by working with women throughout the state on their personal leadership journey - specifically through appointed office. Congratulations Mona and Rachel!
Amy Myrdal Miller is the Immediate Past President of the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She also serves as a national co-chair of the Les Dames d'Escoffier International (LDEI) Green Tables initiative. LDEI is an international organization of women leaders who create a supportive culture in their communities to achieve excellence in the food, beverage and hospitality professions. This report looks at where women in California stand in terms of serving in elected office at the local, state and federal levels. While women have yet to meet 50 percent representation in elected office at any level, California Women Lead, in collaboration with the Brown Administration was able to reach 50 percent of women serving in Appointed Office at the state level in 2015.
