From Mayor Leonard Desiderio...
For many years, there has been an ongoing discussion about the need for an indoor facility that would better accommodate Sea Isle City’s recreation programs, civic meetings, and other community activities. These discussions have taken place all over town, including at City Council and Town Hall meetings, and even around kitchen tables during family dinners. One main reason the idea of a new indoor facility has been a big topic of discussion is because, simply put, we lack a modern gymnasium that meets the needs of our community. Plus, our existing Community Lodge, which we currently use for civic meetings, fitness classes and other community gatherings, is modestly sufficient in some ways and yet greatly lacking in other ways.

From The Members of City Council...
During the “Mayor’s Report” portion of the January 25 City Council meeting, Mayor Desiderio noted that the Community Center project was moving forward and also that the Administration plans to perform minor renovations to the City’s Fire Department building, which will add sleeping quarters for the department’s overnight “Duty Crew.” Additionally, the Mayor publically thanked Sea Isle City’s CFO, Paula Doll, and wished her well in her approaching retirement.

Do You Need a Copy of Your Fingerprints for Employment, Licensing or Other Purposes?
Because fingerprints are required for a variety of reasons (such as employment, professional licensing, adoption, and other times when a criminal history check is mandated), the Sea Isle City Police Department now offers a courtesy Ink Card Fingerprinting Service to Sea Isle City residents, property owners and businesses. During this free service, SICPD Officers will professionally capture fingerprints with the traditional “ink and roll” method on cards that are provided by the person being printed. If needed, assistance will also be provided with completing the top-portion of the cards. Once the ink fingerprints are taken, the Officer performing the service will authenticate the card with their signature and return the card to the owner. Sea Isle City Police will not be conducting the actual background checks and they will not retain a copy of the fingerprints. This service is available Monday thru Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Police Headquarters; however other times are available upon request. To reserve an appointment, please phone 609-263-4311, ext. 0.

Chapter 710 Will Keep You Entertained
AARP Chapter 710 of Sea Isle City recently announced a series of bus trips that will entertain their members (and prospective members) this winter and spring. However, Chapter 710’s Board of Directors has announced a slight change to their event schedule; and now, their bus trip to Mount Hope Winery & Theater (which was scheduled for February 23) is now taking place on March 9.
AARP Chapter 710’s remaining Theater Bus Trip schedule includes:
-
“High School Reunion – an 80’s Mystery” on March 9 (not February 23) at Mount Hope Winery in Manheim, PA, where audience members will enjoy an interactive “who-dunnit” dinner theater experience. Motor coach transportation, lunch, and wine tasting will be included for a cost of $98 per person.
-
“Sherlock Returns” on April 5 at Hunterdon Hills Playhouse in Hampton, NJ. Audience members will join Sherlock Holmes as he solves a crime at Buckingham Palace during this interactive musical comedy. The cost is $105 per person, which includes admission to the show, deluxe motor coach transportation, and lunch.
For more info about Chapter 710’s bus trips, phone President Tom Owings at 609-263-1453 (please note the new contact phone number for Chapter 710 events).
AARP Chapter 710 meets on the second Thursday of the month at 12 noon inside the Community Lodge, 300 JFK Boulevard (please note the new start time of 12 noon). New members are welcome!

Early Shipwrecks in the Days of Sail
