MAYOR'S MESSAGE

I hope you were able to be with us on September 21, when we raised the American Flag and cut a ceremonial ribbon in front of our new City Hall / Public Safety Building - which, I'm certain, will be standing for the next 100 years. It was such a pleasure to see so many people attend the Grand Opening Ceremony, including a bevy of residents and visitors who entered the building for the very first time and commented that they liked what they saw. I was never more proud to be mayor of this wonderful community than I was on that memorable day!

In addition to many familiar faces from Sea Isle City, including the members of City Council, VFW Post 1963's Honor Guard, Deacon Joe Murphy and singer Kathy Wilson, on September 21 we were also fortunate to have with us numerous dignitaries from Cape May County and beyond, such as Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi, Assemblyman Bob Andrzejczak, Cape May County Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton, County Freeholder E. Marie Hayes, County Surrogate M. Susan Sheppard, Esq., County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti, and County Sheriff Gary Schaffer. It was very exciting to be gathered with so many good people as we stepped into a new era of Sea Isle City history.

Of course, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the many people who worked tirelessly to bring this important construction project to fruition, including countless workers from local and regional trade unions, Garrison Architects, Hessert Construction (our general contractor) and numerous sub-contractors, who did their jobs so very well. I would also like to thank all of the City employees, who worked diligently to ensure that our new governmental home is a functional, efficient and attractive work space. It truly is a "Building for the People" - and I thank you all!

As I have said before, I think you're really going to enjoy coming to our new City Hall building to pay your taxes and water bills! --See you at 233 JFK Boulevard!

Smile...You're in Sea Isle!

Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio

CITY COUNCIL'S MESSAGE

During our September 22 City Council meeting - which was our very first meeting in Sea Isle's new City Hall building - Business Administrator George Savastano gave an update on the beach fill project, this year's beach tag sales and a recent $13.1 million bond sale. The bond sale was good financial news for Sea Isle City. Standard and Poor's upheld the City's "AA" Rating, which resulted in six active bidders.  Ultimately the bonds were awarded to Janney Montgomery Scott, as they bid the lowest net interest rate of 2.483%.

Also on September 22, Council introduced and had first reading of Ordinance 1583, which will establish a nominal monthly stipend program to individuals who volunteer on a regular basis to the Sea Isle City Fire Department. The ordinance provides for a monthly stipend of up to $150 per firefighter, dependent on their level of involvement and response to fire calls. Council feels that the stipend is fair and will provide long term cost-savings to the community. Second reading and public hearing of Ordinance 1583 will take place during our City Council meeting on October 27.

During the Citizen Comment portion of the September 22 meeting, it was suggested that Sea Isle City should have more ramps (in place of steps) leading to the Promenade in order to better accommodate residents and visitors with physical disabilities. City Council supports that idea and plans to work with the Administration in the hopes of creating additional ramps.

Best regards from the members of City Council,

Council President Jack Gibson ( jgibson@seaislecitynj.us )
John Divney ( jdivney@seaislecitynj.us )
Frank Edwardi ( fedwardijr@seaislecitynj.us )
Bill Kehner ( wkehner@seaislecitynj.us )
Mary Tighe ( mtighe@seaislecitynj.us )
