E-NEWSLETTER
From the City of Sea Isle City
October 1, 2026

The nor’easter we just experienced was one of the most severe storm events in our region over the past decade, as we suffered through several tide cycles with moderate to major flooding over the course of multiple days. I want to thank everyone who heeded our calls to stay off the roads and avoid driving through flooded areas. I also want to thank our city staff who responded during this storm, and who have already made great progress in cleaning up our city. Our trash collection crews have been working daily to collect any debris our property owners place curbside, and we’ll continue with the clean-up until it’s complete. I ask everyone to be patient as we work to get our city back in shape.
All things considered, our city fared well. Today, I toured the beaches with Congressman Jeff Van Drew, NJ Senator Michael Testa, and other federal and state officials, to assess the effects of the nor’easter. While we suffered erosion, our entire dune system remains intact. We did have some erosion at the base of the dunes in a few areas at the south end between around 75th and 90th Street, but it was not severe. Overall, the beach did its job protecting our island and our properties from the storm surge during this entire event. I want to thank the congressman for all his efforts in securing beach replenishment for Sea Isle City and New Jersey, and for personally reviewing conditions here in Sea Isle City; and thanks to Senator Testa for his commitment to South Jersey. Attached is a link to a “Minute with the Mayor” video of today’s tour (https://www.facebook.com/reel/1628531058660723).

At the September 22 council meeting, Mayor Desiderio spoke about the nor’easter that was approaching our region (and has since passed). As the mayor reported in his message today, the city is in the process of cleanup from the effects of the storm, and our beaches fared pretty well - with some erosion but no significant loss of dunes. At the council meeting, the mayor also reported on the city’s plans to provide for a handicapped accessible slip at the city marina; and announced the winners of the 2027 Beach Tag Art Contest: Holiday Tag – Regan Cunningham; Saint Patrick’s Day Tag – Murphy Reilley; Veteran’s Tag – Brielle Davis; Seasonal Tag – Savannah Wagner.
The mayor also made a special presentation to the VFW Post 1963’s Auxiliary, honoring them for all their efforts in support of our veterans.
Before concluding his remarks, the mayor read a letter from Lewis D’Agostino, the young man who had been previously appointed as “Mayor for the Day” on August 25th.
Each of the resolutions on the consent agenda were approved, including…
- Resolution 134, which authorized the approval of vouchers.
-
Resolution 135, which authorized the award of a contract to Allied Painting, Inc. of Williamstown New Jersey in the amount of $299,600 for the refurbishment of the water system aerators at our 40th and 55th Street water treatment facilities. The aerators are part of the treatment process for Sea Isle’s drinking water that is drawn from aquifers 800 feet deep in the ground.

STREET SWEEPING
Starts October 6
The Department of Public Works will begin City-wide Street Sweeping Operations beginning October 6 and running through November 9, weather permitting. To help the DPW crew sweep as much debris from our streets as possible, we respectfully ask residents and visitors to avoid parking vehicles on the curb during weekdays – and in particular on:
- Tuesdays: North-end 2nd Street to 44th Street
- Wednesdays: Mid-town 45th Street to 70th Street
- Thursdays: South-end 71st Street to 94th Street
PLEASE NOTE: During this important effort, the DPW will attempt to sweep every street in Sea Isle. However, there is no way to determine in advance exactly what street will be swept on any given day – hence, we can only give generalities (ex: the North-end on Tuesdays, Mid-town on Wednesdays, etc.). Because unexpected mechanical problems can arise with complicated equipment such as our street sweeper and extreme weather can also interrupt sweeping operations, we ask for everyone’s patience during this process. Please keep in mind that you may see our Street Sweeper in operation any day of the week; however, we ask people to pay special attention to the schedule listed above.

FALL HYDRANT FLUSHING
Routine Fire Hydrant Maintenance
During the months of October and November, the Sea Isle City Water Department will be flushing-out the water distribution system through the fire hydrants and exercise water valves throughout town. Semi-annual hydrant flushing is required to ensure that hydrants and the water distribution systems are functioning properly and can provide the proper drinking water quality (thus providing adequate water flow when needed). This is also a requirement for the Water Quality Accountability Act. If a hydrant is being flushed near your home or business, we encourage you to avoid using washing machines, dishwashers or other water using devices during flushing operations. Residents can expect very little disruption in their water service - if any. However, low water pressure and possible water discoloration may occur. In the event of discoloration, simply allow water to run from the tap for a short while until clear. These conditions are not harmful and are usually short term. For additional info, phone 609-263-6000 (ext. 3011) or email: dteefyjr@seaislecitynj.us.
