MAYOR'S MESSAGE
From Mayor Leonard Desiderio...

Even though the autumn, winter and spring seasons each have their own beauty and appeal, we all know that there are fewer people in Sea Isle City after the summer ends. With that in mind, during this “quiet” time of year, please keep your vehicles and homes locked at all times, be mindful of your neighbor’s properties while they are out of town, tell your neighbors when you plan to be away, and immediately phone the Sea Isle City Police Department if you notice a suspicious vehicle, person or situation. Additionally, if you phone the police to let them know that you will be out of town for an extended period of time, they will be glad to drive-by and check-on your home. Sea Isle City is a very safe community, and we can keep it that way by practicing good habits such as these.

Each of the resolutions on the October 12 Consent Agenda was approved, including…
  • Resolution 205, which dedicated Sea Isle City’s Municipal Marina as the “Frank P. Edwardi, Sr. Marina.”

Rx TAKE BACK EVENT
Rid Your Home of Unwanted Medications
on October 23

The Sea Isle City Police Department will collect unused prescription medications in the lobby of City Hall on Saturday, October 23, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, as part of the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day. During this event, the public can safely and anonymously dispose of unneeded medications free of charge – and prevent dangerous substances from falling into the wrong hands. Sharp objects and liquids are not accepted; and it is advised that all names and personal information be removed from prescription containers. Also, please remember that throwing drugs in the trash or flushing them down the drain is not a safe disposal method.

According to a 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers that year and millions more misused prescription stimulants, tranquilizers or sedatives. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends. Sometimes, medicine is taken directly from home medicine cabinets without the homeowners realizing.

HYDRANT FLUSHING
Regular Maintenance Ensures Reliability

During the months of October and November, the Sea Isle City Water Department will be flushing-out the water distribution system through the fire hydrants and exercise water valves throughout town. Semi-annual hydrant flushing is required to ensure that hydrants and the water distribution systems are functioning properly and can provide the proper drinking water quality (thus providing adequate water flow when needed). This is also a requirement for the Water Quality Accountability Act. If a hydrant is being flushed near your home or business, we encourage you to avoid using washing machines, dishwashers or other water using devices during flushing operations. Residents can expect very little disruption in their water service - if any. However, low water pressure and possible water discoloration may occur. In the event of discoloration, simply allow water to run from the tap for a short while until clear. These conditions are not harmful and are usually short term. For additional info, phone 609-263-6000 (ext. 11) or email: dteefyjr@seaislecitynj.us.
