Election Day This Saturday
Tomorrow (Saturday, May 1) is election day here in Lakeway. The local election includes electing a mayor and three city councilmembers. Additionally, there is a special election to consider reauthorization of a road maintenance sales tax. The voters of Lakeway first approved imposing this sales tax in 2001. The tax code requires that the road maintenance sales tax be reauthorized by the voters every four (4) years. The tax was last approved by voters in 2017. The voting location in Lakeway is at the Lakeway Activity Center (105 Cross Creek). Polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Click here for a complete list of voting locations in Travis County.
2021 Lakeway Photo Festival Contest
The City of Lakeway Arts Committee is accepting entries to the Lakeway Photo Festival from now through May 15 at 5 p.m. Submissions can be made online or through a downloadable form. We also have forms available to pick up at City Hall and the Lakeway Activity Center. Photographers can compete in six categories, including: Nature; Wildlife; Events; Volunteers; Activities; and Artistic. There will also be a "Best of Show" award. The grand prize winner in 2019 was former Mayor Joe Bain's photograph of Lake Travis (pictured left). All photos must be taken in Lakeway and between January 1, 2020 and May 15, 2021. COVID-19 Update: Vaccines Available This Weekend/Mask Guidelines Updated
If you still need a COVID-19 vaccine, Austin Public Health (APH) is offering another opportunity this weekend. No appointments will be necessary for another vaccine event happening this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas located at 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd. Anyone age 16 and above will qualify to get their free first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The event is open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Click here for details.

This week the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also updated health recommendations for fully vaccinated people. Fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask outdoors, except in certain crowded settings and venues. Fully vaccinated residents of non-healthcare congregate settings no longer need to quarantine following a known exposure. Previously updated guidelines also allowed vaccinated individuals to be able to visit other fully vaccinated people indoors without a mask or physical distancing, along with visiting unvaccinated people from a single household who are at low risk for severe COVID-19 disease. They can also resume domestic travel and refrain from testing before or after their trip. Click here for the details.

A total of 82,257 cases have been reported to date in Travis County. There have been a total of 2,647 cases in the Lakeway area (zip codes 78734, 78738 and 78669) since the start of the pandemic. There are currently 914 active cases at this time in Travis County (down from 952 last week) and 136 individuals hospitalized in the region (down from 144 last week). NEW: Spirit Of Freedom Applications

Applications are being accepted for veteran name to be added to the Spirit of Freedom Monument at Heritage Park. Collectively, there are over 1,100 past or present Lakeway residents who have served in the armed forces. The monument honors those veterans who served in WWII, along with the Korean and Vietnam wars. Application forms are available at the Heritage Center, City Hall and the Lakeway Activity Center. The deadline to submit the application to be included in this year's Veteran's Day tribute will be August 15. Email your questions to history@lakeway-tx.gov.
NEW: Pickleball Classes Available

Spots are available for Pickleball training classes starting next week, and yes - we have Pickleball courts here in Lakeway! The sport is a combination of tennis, ping pong and badminton. It's played on a court about one-third the size of a tennis court with a net at the center. Players use an oversized ping pong paddle and a perforated ball similar to a whiffle ball. These classes will teach the basics of play and the scoring system so you can get up to speed on competing with some local players. The fee is $80 with classes starting next week through mid-June.
