United Way is excited to host a series of Lunch & Learns this year highlighting various topics relating to the missions and programs of United Way Community Impact Agencies. We invite anyone in the community to attend these Lunch & Learns to learn about the topics discussed!
This month we are highlighting the work of CHART Teen Task Force - the organization works in the community to prevent unintended births to teens. Our January Lunch & Learn relates directly back to their mission.
Talking to kids about sex is uncomfortable for everyone. However, kids need to know the truths about sex to ensure that they do not seek incorrect information from peers and/or look for their own sources for answers.
At this Lunch & Learn, Dr. Sandra Ahlum, retired OBGYN and Chair of CHART Teen Task Force, and Melissa Miller, CHART Teen Task Force Sexuality Educator, will share best practices on how to talk to kids about sex. As a trained sexuality educator, Melissa Miller provides education in local schools providing programs for girls and boys, abstinence-centered programs, and comprehensive sexuality education including puberty, reproduction, abstinence/pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted infections, healthy relationships, decision making, sexting, and internet safety.
At this Lunch & Learn, Dr. Ahlum and Melissa will share information relevant to adults to ensure adults know how to talk to kids about sex. All are welcome.
