Need a Letter of Recommendation?
Seniors, do you need a letter of recommendation for your college or scholarship applications? Here's the best way to get one!

1. Log on to Naviance, and fill out the 2019-2020 Senior Brag Sheet under the 'About Me' section, under 'My Surveys', and then 'Surveys Not Started'.
2. Take a printed copy of your Brag Sheet to any teacher/coach/counselor that you are asking a letter from, along with any addressed envelopes that might be needed for that person to mail in your letter (some may be electronic, it depends on the school's requirements).
3. Don't forget to give the letter writer plenty of notice, and say "Please" and "Thank you!".
4. It's always a good idea to follow up with a 'Thank You' note- remember that these letters take time and thought when being written!

College Planning Calendar for Seniors

SEPTEMBER

  • Register for the ACT and/or SAT if you didn't take it as a junior or if you aren't satisfied with your score and want to take it again.
  • Take a look at some college applications to start compiling all the information you will need for applications, the FAFSA, etc.
  • Take some time to complete your resume. (Some colleges will have the option to include a resume)
  • Start working on your brag sheet. (You can find this in Naviance under the About Me section.)
  • Begin brainstorming ideas for your essays/or begin your first draft of your essay(s).
  • The online application for the University of California is open; you can only submit your application during the month of November, but you can start working on it now!
  • Parents and students should reach an understanding and agreement regarding college finances and budget as they discuss the college list. Review the final college list with your family to make certain you are all on the same page about finances and the schools you'll be applying to.
  • Attend the college visits in the College and Career Center for schools you are interested in. Take every opportunity to get to know colleges and how they might (or might not) be a good fit for you.
  • Stay organized and track your deadlines! Create a checklist and calendar to chart your test scores, college application due dates, financial aid forms and deadlines, supplemental material deadlines, etc.
  • Ask your teachers and counselors for letters of recommendation if you haven't already done so.
  • Create college email accounts for all of the colleges to which you'll apply.
