To St. John's Parishioners and Friends: | |
|
The holiest time of the church year approaches. Amid the logistics of Spring Break travel, Easter baskets, visiting family members, and Easter brunches and dinners, St. John's staff and all our volunteer ministers are hard at work, planning and leading worship, revising and checking bulletins, seeing to our worship space, preparing for our Easter egg hunt, and more.
It takes a lot to look up from the to-do list that this Holy Week can become, but it's worth it. On Monday, I visited the hospital for a friend. Deacon Steve and I renewed our ordination vows yesterday at St. Alban's, Annandale, along with other northern Virginia clergy. This morning, I toured Western Fairfax Christian Ministries, which serves more than 500 local families every month. The kingdom of God is at hand and alive all around.
Walk this Holy Week way with Jesus. Easter is coming, but the resurrection we're waiting for is already here.
Grace and peace,
Kevin
P.S. I continue to meet with so many amazing parishioners. Please sign up for a time to meet the new guy! I've got no agenda, other than to getting to know you. Where we meet and for how long in our time is up to you. We've gone out to lunch, had dinner, met at the office, and there are still folks I haven't met. You can contact me via email or click here to book a time directly.

How to help Ukrainians If you would like to help those in need, Episcopal Relief and Development is working closely with a group that is on the ground in Ukraine. You can make a contribution: at https://www.episcopalrelief.org/
A Prayer for all those involved in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen
(written by Archbishop Justin Welby and Archbishop Stephen Cottrell)
