To St. John's Parishioners and Friends: | |
"Look with favor upon those whom you have called, O God, and grant that they may be so filled with your Holy Spirit that they may minister in their chosen task with joy and steadfast devotion; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen."
--Book of Occasional Services, p. 198
At our Annual Meeting this past Sunday, we prayed this prayer over each of our newly elected ministers.
Please welcome Tom Jones and Lisa Heller to St. John's Vestry. New Junior and Senior Wardens will be announced after the new Vestry meets this Sunday.
Our heartfelt thanks to departing Vestry members Elise Crawford, Sandy Jones, and especially Susie Pike, who served as Senior Warden.
Thanks also to our delegate to Annual Convention Walt Cooner and to Monti Zimmerman, our alternate, for agreeing to serve once again in this ministry.
May they serve, as others have, with joy and steadfast devotion.
Faithfully,
Kevin

Upcoming Readings for the The Sixth Sunday after the Epiphany
Let us prepare our hearts and mind for worship:
First Reading: Jeremiah 17:5-10
Jeremiah warns that those who rely on their own abilities will find that their efforts come to nothing. But those who choose to put their faith in God will be richly blessed in all their endeavors.
Response: Psalm 1
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20
Jesus teaches the crowd about the nature of true blessedness and virtue. In spite of what the world might think, it is the poor, the downtrodden and the persecuted who find favor in God’s sight.
Gospel: Luke 6:17-26
Jesus teaches the crowd about the nature of true blessedness and virtue. In spite of what the world might think, it is the poor, the downtrodden and the persecuted who find favor in God’s sight.

Supporting Wildfire Response
According to Episcopal Relief and Development, emergency responders are still working to contain the 100-mph wind-fueled fires that are consuming land, homes, places of worship, parks and businesses all across Southern California. Already 28 people are dead and more than 130,000 had to evacuate their homes – many of whom no longer have a home to which they can return.
For more information and to donate to relief efforts, visit Episcopal Relief and Development's Wildfire Response Fund and the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles' Fire Response.
