St. John's Episcopal Church - Centreville, VA | | Parish News - July 9, 2025 | | To St. John's Parishioners and Friends: | | |
St. John's was consecrated July 14, 1854. Join us this Sunday, July 13 at 9:30 AM to celebrate our anniversary with a special outdoor Eucharist. Weather permitting, we'll be setting up in the side lawn and parking lot of the church just below where the playground was.
-
Bring chairs. Bring your own comfortable camp and lawn chairs for the service. We will be on the level ground in the parking lot. Additional chairs will be provided for newcomers and those who forget.
-
Come as you are. This is a casual service. Wear your St. John's t-shirt, or whatever's comfortable for the weather.
-
Bring a snack to share. Following the service, we'll share an expanded pot-luck coffee hour. Bring a snack to share, and the church will provide coffee, sparkling beverages, and water on the lawn.
Join us as we celebrate another year of loving God and our neighbor here in Centreville.
Faithfully,
Kevin
The Rev. Kevin Laskowski
Priest-in-Charge

Saint of the Week: Eva Lee Matthews
Eva Lee Matthews was a devout Episcopalian who became concerned with helping others. Inspired by religious orders she visited in the U.S., Matthews decided to establish a similar community in America. At Bethany Mission House, Matthews and coworker Beatrice Henderson decided to create a new Episcopal religious order whose avowed purpose was to help Cincinnati's poor, especially children. On August 6, 1898, Episcopal Church officials formally recognized their order, naming it the Community of the Transfiguration (CoT).

Register for Education for Ministry (EfM)
Are you looking to deepen your faith? Are you hoping to understand how your personal experiences and beliefs bring you closer to God and God's people? If "yes," EfM (Education for Ministry) may be for you.
Through study, prayer, worship, and reflection, EfM seminar groups journey together through scripture, church history, and theology. EfM is delivered through small seminar groups and meet for 36 weeks over a year. Participants in years 1 & 2 study the texts and context of scripture; Year 3 looks at Church History; Year 4 delves into Christian ethics and spirituality. Also built into the group is a fifth voice: Wide Angle, which offers a taste of each of the four years into one year.
Contact Walt Cooner by July 15 to inquire about the upcoming EfM year at St. John's - where we have deep conversations about things that matter – always looking for ways God is active in our lives.
