Parish News - October 16, 2024

To St. John's Parishioners and Friends:

Centreville Day 2024 flyer

Centreville Day is upon us! Centreville Day will be

held this Saturday, October 19 here in the Centreville Historic District from 10 AM to 4 PM.

There's so much to be seen this year:

  • Visit the Wonder Wagon (a nature park on a truck!), meet worms, see bees and earn about recycling and composting at our new Eco Expo!
  • At the Safety Expo, police and other first responders will be out to show off their latest technology and to help to make you and your family more safe.
  • Kids can follow the Trick or Treat Trail through the marketplace and collect goodies -- costumes are welcome!
  • Adults (and older kids) can gather at 2:30 at St. John's Church for the start of a ghost tour through the heart of historic Centreville. We'll walk through the venue and end at the Old Stone Church

Admission is free. Entertainment is free. Children's rides are free. There'll be food, vendors, and more.

St. John's will be there! And I'll be giving the invocation at this year's gathering as well as blessing pets.

Invite family and friends! Parking is available at Centreville Methodist or Trinity Centre.

St. John's parishioners, please sign up to be part of St. John's Centreville Day presence (especially by making and bringing baked goods!). Volunteers must be signed up to receive parking passes to park at the church. Contact Senior Warden Susie Pike with questions.

Grace and peace,

Kevin

Upcoming Readings for The Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost

Let us prepare our hearts and mind for worship:

First Reading: Isaiah 53:4-12

Seven centuries before the birth of Jesus, Isaiah prophesies about the Messiah’s suffering and death.

Response: Psalm 91:9-16

Second Reading: Hebrews 5:1-10

Jesus is the ultimate high priest, sealing the salvation of people across thousands of years.

Gospel: Mark 10:35-45

Jesus overturns human fixations on power and status, stressing that greatness comes from being a servant.

New Worship Customary

Bishop E. Mark Stephenson has updated liturgical guidelines for the Diocese of Virginia. Remember: "individual communicants may not dip their own hosts or bread in the wine."
