I ntern in the Deacon's School to assist at St. John's - Steven Busch, a second year student in the Deacon's School will serve as an intern at St. John's in 2020. His first Sunday will be January 5, though he will sit in the congregation that day. He will be a Vocational Deacon when he is ordained in 2021. That means his ministry will be that of a deacon, whose focus is on those in need in the community, and he will not be ordained as a priest. Steven spent his career in the military and he is now retired. His focus at St. John's will be outreach. After learning more about the community and its needs, he will help us either enhance an outreach program we already have or help us start a new one. Steven will assist on Sunday mornings in a rotation of positions (but he will not displace our lay people who currently serve as LEM's, lectors, crucifers, etc.) and will work here 3 hours per week on outreach. I am pleased to welcome Steven to St. John's and look forward to his ministry with us.

The First Sunday after Christmas Day

December 29, 2019

9:30 AM

 The First Reading: Isaiah 61:10-62:3
The glory of God, revealed in his Son, Jesus Christ, is so pure and so great that a person who knows of this news cannot be silenced; the joy which overflows a human heart cannot be contained.

The Psalm: 147 or 147:13-21 , page 804, BCP

The Second Lesson: Galatians 3:23-25; 4:4-7
The law trains those who seek God's revelation, and Jesus brings the fullness of life in God through the embodiment of the law, full of grace and truth.

The Gospel: John 1:1-18
God comes to be with his people through the body of his Son, Jesus Christ. Salvation is found in no one else, announced throughout time by prophets and mighty acts of love.

OPPORTUNITIES
Reminder
Every Wednesday evening, we have a service of Holy Eucharist and healing at 6:00 PM. The service is about 30 minutes. It is a perfect alternative for those who cannot come to church on Sunday mornings, as well as a good spiritual boost in the middle of the week. Come join us!

Longing
Advertisers know only too well that we are restless and full of desire – especially during this season. If you buy this product, your longing will be satisfied. A bigger home, another car. A younger face. And it lasts a while – but then we long for more. The restless heart cannot be so easily satisfied. This longing and this restless desire are planted in us by God; they are divine homing-instincts. So if you are right now feeling restless, if you have a desire for you’re not sure what, don’t try to fill it with something. See it rather as your inner response to God seeking you, drawing you home.
