From the Pastor
This Thursday, May 5th, is the National Day of Prayer. The theme this year is, “Exalt the LORD who has established us” (Colossians 2:6-7). Our local observance will begin at 8:00am with the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at Picayune FBC in the Link. Then, we will gather for a prayer luncheon (no cost) here at RPBC at noon in the Fellowship Hall. Our observance is for all ages. If you work locally, please use your lunch break to join us!

“The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation." The National Day of Prayer shares common roots with the celebration of Thanksgiving; both were national proclamations establishing a day of prayer. In the New England Colonies under British rule, traditional observances in late fall called for prayer and thanksgiving, while observances in the spring or summer called for prayer and fasting. The fall observance was established by President Abraham Lincoln as the official Thanksgiving holiday in 1863. The spring observance was established by President Harry S. Truman in 1952 as the National Day of Prayer.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Day_of_Prayer)  I think it is interesting that the National Day of Prayer has its roots in an observance that called for “prayer and fasting,” and we are centering our observance around a prayer breakfast and prayer luncheon!

We just completed the first open week of donations following the vote to move forward with building a gym. The total given, plus accrued interest, now stands at $322,269.34. That is so awesome! And, that is still so far away from $975,000!  Please give prayerfully and obediently. With God, all things are possible!

Our God is and Awesome God!
