Nov. 26 2019
Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for God's faithfulness and abundance, for the gift of creation, and for the whole human family. It is also a time to pray for ongoing healing in our relationship with those around us, those close to us, and all of God's creation.
A Prayer for Creation on Thanksgiving
Adapted from ELW, p. 81

Abundant God, in your self-emptying love you gathered up and reconciled all creation to the yourself. Innumerable galaxies of the heavens worship you. Creatures that grace the earth rejoice in you. All those in the deepest seas bow to you in adoration. As with them we give you praise.

We give you thanks for the fruitful earth, which produces what is needed for life. Bless those who work in the fields; grant favorable weather to all engaged in agriculture; and help us to ensure that all people share the fruits of the earth.

We praise you for the returning of planting and harvest seasons, for the fertility of the soil, for the harvesting of the corps, and for all other blessings that you in your generosity pour out on all people.

We give thanks that your first covenant of mercy was with every living creature. When your Son came among us, the waters of the river welcomed him, the heavens opened to greet his arrival. With all the world's people, may we who are washed into new life through baptism seek the way of your new creation, the way of justice and care, mercy and peace. Grant that we may cherish the earth, our home, and live in harmony with this good creation, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

A Prayer for the Human Family on Thanksgiving
from ELW p. 79

O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son. Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred that infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and through our struggle and confusion, work to accomplish your purposes on earth; so that, in your good time, every people and nation may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen.

THANK YOU for Faithful Stewardship and
Generosity in 2019

Bishop Suarez offers a word of thanks for your faithful stewardship and generosity. Please share this video with your congregation. Below are ways you might do that:

  • Post the video on your congregation's web site or share in your congregation's newsletter (link to share is available by clicking HERE)
  • Show the video during offering in worship
  • Show the video during a congregational meeting
  • Share the video with your committees/ministry teams as an opening reflection. Discuss together what aspects of that team's ministry reflects generosity and stewardship
  • Share with Confirmation and Youth groups and ask for feedback about what they know/don't know/wonder about the congregation's stewardship (time, talent, treasure)
Beyond investing in your own ministry, many of you reach out into your community through outreach services, relationship-building, ecumenical and interfaith involvement, and more. Your hospitality, generosity and care for others makes a huge difference!
