Cleves Stormwater District Update
In 2015, the Village of Cleves withdrew from the Hamilton County Stormwater District. From that time until 2024, our Village was technically in violation of Ohio EPA regulations that had previously been met through our membership.
Thanks to effective cooperation with the Ohio EPA and the guidance of our Village Engineer, Jennifer Vater, we were able to avoid penalties and move forward with renewed commitment to compliance.
Under our MS4 permit, Cleves is now responsible for implementing and funding best practices that reduce or eliminate pollution in our waterways. One of those practices will take place this week: street sweeping.
What Residents Need to Know
- Our Service Department will post No Parking signs in the downtown area and the Westgate subdivision.
- Please remove vehicles from the street on the posted days to allow sweeping crews to work effectively.
- Residents can help us meet EPA guidelines by not blowing grass clippings or leaves into the street. While some debris will inevitably fall, we must do our best to remove it before it clogs stormwater outflows.
Shared Responsibility
Cleves is not alone in this effort. Municipalities across Ohio, including the City of Marietta, share the same responsibility and costs of stormwater maintenance. A video from Marietta is included in this issue to highlight how communities across the state are working to protect water quality.
By working together, residents, staff, and partners, we can keep our waterways clean, meet state requirements, and preserve the health of our environment for future generations.
