Leaf Pickup
Proper leaf collection improves the safety of your neighborhood. When leaves are pushed into or allowed to accumulate over storm drains, rain water is unable to recede and can puddle and freeze in roadways or cause flooding into your home. By properly collecting your leaves and clearing storm drains you can protect your neighborhood.
FREE leaf pickup is the week of Nov. 20th which is also a delayed pickup week for Thursday and Friday customers. The last week of Nov. yard waste and leaf pick up end. Flood Brothers Disposal Co. sells discounted leaf stickers so residents can save $1/bag on the disposal of their fall leaves.
Leaf stickers can be purchased at the following LOCAL sales locations:

Village Hall
(Temp Building)
Police Lobby
(Temp Building)
Jewel
Caputo's
Valli
(Glendale Hts.)
Meijer
(Bloomingdale)

Bicentennial
200 years ago, on December 3, 1818, Illinois became the 21st state in the Union. Since then, the people of Illinois have transformed this once-barren and uninviting land into a remarkable place of awe-inspiring beauty, accomplishment, and culture.

As we recognize our 200th year of statehood, now's the perfect time to pay tribute to the people, places, and things that make Illinois an amazing place.

Donate on Water Bills

The December water bill has a pre-printed donation box on the payment portion for water customers to make a voluntary donation in support of the Christmas Sharing Program. This holiday season will be our 38th Annual outreach to local under-resourced families in need of a hand at this difficult time of year.

All donations to the Christmas Sharing program are fully tax deductible to the extent permitted by the U.S. Tax Code as this charitable effort is a registered non-prof it. 100% of the financial donations made to the Christmas Sharing program are used for direct assistance to families in need. Each family registered for program assistance will receive a food basket for a traditional holiday meal and new toys for their children.

Fats, Oils, and Greases

As we get closer to the holidays, so do the traditional holiday spreads of delicious foods. One holiday staple is Turkey-whether roasted or fried do not pour turkey grease down the drain.
The US EPA reports that on average, 48,000 sanitary sewer backups occur each year resulting in the accidental discharge of millions of gallons of raw sewage into homes and businesses.
It is common during the holiday season for backups of private sewer services to occur resulting from a blockage caused by a homeowner pouring grease down a kitchen or utility sink. Liquid animal fat disposed of via the sanitary sewer system will so lidify in short order once it enters the chilled environment of a sewer lateral in the winter season.

The repair and associated clean up costs from a sewer back up can be considerable and may not be covered by homeowners insurance. The Village advises homeowners and renters to pour their turkey and other cooking greases, once cooled in a sealable plastic container or a standard coffee can with a lid. Your grease containers can then be disposed of in your trash. Are you looking to recycle liquid cooking oil into bio diesel? SCARCE is offering multiple cooking oil collection events

Holiday Safety

For most, the kitchen is the heart of the home, especially during the holidays. From testing family recipes to decorating cakes and cookies, everyone enjoys being part of the preparations. Thanksgiving is also the number one day each year for home cooking fires. Because of the holiday neighbors here are some National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) safety tips:
  • Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stovetop so you can keep an eye on the food.
  • Stay in the home when cooking your turkey and check on it frequently.
  • Keep children away from the stove. The stove will be hot and kids should stay 3 feet away.
  • Make sure kids stay away from hot food and liquids. The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy or coffee could cause serious burns.
  • Keep the floor clear so you don't trip over kids, toys, pocketbooks or bags.
  • Keep knives out of the reach of children.
  • Be sure electric cords from an electric knife, coffee maker, plate warmer or mixer are not dangling off the counter within easy reach of a child.
  • Keep matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children - up high in a locked cabinet.
  • Never leave children alone in room with a lit candle.
  • Make sure your smoke alarms are working. Test them by pushing the test button.
  • Know the NFPA discourages the use of outdoor gas fueled turkey fryers.
St. Charles and President St. Intersection

Stop sign all way
At the request of the Village, DuPage County Division of Transportation conducted a study on the safety of the intersection of President St. and St. Charles Rd. The study reviewed traffic counts, speed warrant analysis, capacity analysis, and conceptual development.

Based on the results of this analysis and recent accidents, the County installed All-Way Stop signs until a traffic signal can be installed next spring/summer in partnership with the Village. The traffic signal will feature pedestrian crossing buttons. Please be sure to drive with caution as these changes are implemented. For questions you may contact the DuPage County Division of Transportation at 630-407-6900.
