UPDATED 08/05/2021

Locally, cases are climbing. The more contagious Delta variant is now the most common in and around La Crosse. English Lutheran Church is committed to following public health recommendations and leading by example. Our goal is to gather together as a congregation as much as possible, while protecting the health and well-being of all of our church family and community. Based on current level of transmission in La Crosse County, the Center for Disease Control is currently recommending wearing a mask indoors for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. Therefore, the current recommendations for ELC are as follows:
  • Masks are required for ages 2+ to attend worship, weddings, and funerals as well as groups/committee meetings - regardless of vaccination status. Remember this recommendation is for the safety and protection of our most fragile members of our congregation: our unvaccinated children, and older adults with weaker immune systems.
  • We encourage worshippers to continue to sing softly, sit distanced in the sanctuary and within any group, and practice good hand hygiene.

Join us from 11am-1pm for fun, food, games, and music by Moon Chicken. We're changing things up this year due to COVID. Masks are not required outdoors, but encouraged.

English Lutheran has been asked to host the La Crosse Area Synod Bishop Installation on Sunday, September 26. The event will be live streamed for all congregations to view, but we will need some volunteers to make desserts and be in the building throughout the day to assist with this event. The Ministry Council has information on how we can help with the Afghan refugees that are coming to our area.

Donations of Goods:

For folks who want to purchase and drop off items at church, click here here for the list of needed items. If you purchase any items, please drop them off here at ELC at the table in the narthex and we'll get them where they need to go!

For those who want to purchase items online, you can purchase through a charity list at Amazon or Target and have it delivered straight to Catholic Charities.

Monetary Donations:

Donations of any amount are appreciated! Please clearly mark donations for Afghan Refugees. We will split donations between Catholic Charities and our local mosques in La Crosse and Winona. Every gift will directly benefit local refugees. Nearly all refugees left Afghanistan with just the clothes on their backs. The needs are immense.

Give your Time:

Many volunteers will be needed. They prefer volunteers who can give full days or even full weeks. Click here to fill out the volunteer application.
The Waking Up White Regional Read’s intent is to encourage frank community conversations on structural oppression, prejudice, color blindness, dominant white culture, and its effects on people of color and to motivate us to take action to create a healthier multicultural community.

What is a Regional Read? The Waking Up White Regional Read invites the community to read Waking Up White, attend public presentations, and engage in book chat conversations about ways to create a more welcoming and inclusive multicultural community.

Click here to find out more. If you'd like to have a coversation group through ELC, contact Irene TenEyck. If there is enough interest, ELC will hold its own group.
