UPDATED 09/23/2021
English Lutheran Church is committed to following public health recommendations and leading by example. Our goal is to gather together as a congregation as much as possible, while protecting the health and well-being of our church family and community. Based on current level of transmission in La Crosse County, the Center for Disease Control is recommending wearing a mask indoors for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. Therefore, recommendations for ELC are:
  • Masks are required for ages 2+ to attend worship, weddings, and funerals as well as groups/committee meetings - regardless of vaccination status. Remember this recommendation is for the safety and protection of our most fragile members of our congregation: our unvaccinated children, and older adults with weaker immune systems.
  • We encourage worshippers to continue to sing softlysit distanced in the sanctuary and within any group, and practice good hand hygiene.

As we are getting back to normal, we again have visitors looking for a faith community to call home.

If you see a face you don't recognize, make sure to introduce yourself! If someone is visiting our congregation, make an effort to sit near them in worship, see if they have any questions about English, and invite them for coffee between services.
The total raised in this year's Coulee Region Hunger Walk is $19,059, with ELC raising $1,060. There were 264 registrations, and donations. Hunger Task Force received $6,607 and WAFER received $6,170, and donations were also sent to 18 other organizations as designated by the walkers. Thank you for your support!
Are you interested in participating in an international, intergenerational mission trip in 2022? We are exploring the opportunity to do another mission trip at ELC and would love to hear from those who are interested in going. All ages welcome, location to be determined. For more information, please contact Irene TenEyck, Director of Caring Ministries.
The youth of English Lutheran Church sell gift cards for fundraising. These gift cards make wonderful gifts for the holiday season, for birthdays, teachers, and for yourself (think gas and groceries)! We will be putting in card orders on Fridays in November and December with December 10th being the last order before Christmas. Find out more and download an order form here, visit the church office during the week, or order between services in the Fellowship Hall.
Just a reminder that if you ever receive an email or text from an ELC staff person, church member, Vision Board/committee member asking for gift cards or money donations, please do not respond. There are many scammers out there targeting churches. We will NEVER ask for gift cards, money, credit card info, or bank transfers via text or email.

Read closely and you may detect where it appears strange. Check the from address as it is likely not "englishlutheran.org" or our email service "auth.ccsend.com." If in doubt, do not reply to a text or email. Call us at the church office to see if it was a legitimate message. If you did reply, cease communication and block the sender. ELC is not liable for criminal activity so please protect yourself.

Tip: Most email systems allow a suspicious message to be reported as Phishing or Spam. Please do so.
Once again, English Lutheran will participate in the La Crosse Community Thanksgiving Dinner! Donations due by Monday, November 22, as they will be picked up by dinner volunteers on Tuesday the 23rd.

Please bring your donations of green beans and jellied cranberries (industrial size cans only) to the turkey display in the narthex! Cash donations are also welcome; please mark your check clearly for "Thanksgiving Dinner" and we will forward donations.

If you'd like to volunteer or attend the dinner, click here for more information. Deliveries are available!
This year, at each worship service in Advent, we continue our tradition of the Lighting of the Advent candle. Participants will read a short prayer, light the candle, and the congregation joins together in singing "Light One Candle to Watch for Messiah."

If you would like to be part of this special Advent tradition, please sign up at the Welcome Center for a worship service, or contact the church office at 784-9335 to see what dates are available.
Packers? Vikings? Don’t care?

Our annual "Tackle Hunger Packer vs. Vikings Food Challenge is November 20th & 21st. Bring donations of non-perishable food items to church and place it by your winning team! The building is always open from 8:30-1:00 during the week (noon on Fridays). You may also drop donations off on Wednesday evenings.
We need approximately 6-8 volunteers on Saturday, December 4 from 9:00-11am to help clear the floors in the storage room(s). The Property Committee is having the floors re-sealed and everything will need to be removed. We will have dollies and carts available. If you can sign up to help let our new Building Maintenance Coordinator, Dane Melby, know!
Our 2022 stewardship campaign, "All for Justice and Justice for All" concludes this weekend with a familiar face preaching - Pastor Paul Sannerud! Join us at worship this weekend.

If you have not had a chance to get to church or mail your 2022 Estimate of Giving in, you may also fill out your estimate online here, or give Jennifer a call at 784-8876 x201.

Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression...

This weekend as part of our stewardship campaign, we welcome Tim Jacobson at all three worship services to give a short talk on Habitat for Humanity's Faith Build. ELC has been a strong partner in this new home for Libby Olson and her family! Tim will also join us between services at Sunday Conversations to give us even more information on Habitat and how you can get involved.
We have some news from our local Habitat for Humanity Faith Build! If you have any questions, please contact Irene TenEyck, Director of Caring Ministries.

Let’s "Hammer it Home" for Libby and her boys! The Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Faith Build is almost done! Join us at 1121 Avon street for drywalling, painting, and finishing! Click here for a schedule of volunteer times.

SAVE THE DATE - Join us in celebration of our first ever Faith Build! Habitat for Humanity with the help of Thrivent Financial and our Faith Build Champion congregations will be dedicating the home at 1121 Avon Street on Thursday, January 20th from 3pm-6pm and everyone is welcome. We will celebrate with hot cocoa, cookies, warmth, blessings, and so much more! This is the good stuff folks, and we couldn’t have done it without our faith community. ELC is proud to be a partner congregation with Habitat for Humanity.
It's that time of year again! Advent and Christmas are upon us.

If you'd like to donate to the Poinsettia Fund, please click here for more information and a donation form. Donations are used to purchase the flowers that decorate our altar, and extra funds are sent to WAFER and St. Clare Health Mission.

Forms are due back to the office by December 13 to have names included in the Christmas worship bulletins.
We have Advent devotional books available for pick up in the parking lot entry. Please take one home with you and for a neighbor or friend!

In Advent, the Worship Council will also have weekly prayer handouts. Be sure to be on the watch for those at worship. Take one home and hang it on your refrigerator or mirror for something to reflect on during the week this Advent season.
In light of our HVAC equipment being replaced and temperatures dropping, it would be a good idea to bring a sweater to church activities. The project is still moving forward, although a little more slowly than planned due to shipping issues with the new equipment. Temperatures can fluctuate as the thermostats get programmed, as well as with having to bring in outside air due to COVID. It's Sweater Weather! :)

Martha Monson Lowe will offer handmade Palestinian arts and crafts from the Holy Land for sale Sunday morning, December 5. All items were collected from artists and shopkeepers during their most recent visit to Palestine in 2019-2020 for three months, where she and her husband George volunteered at the guesthouse at Bethlehem Bible College. They will have olive wood, cashmere scarves, pottery, jewelry, wool rugs, felt work, Christmas ornaments, embroidery, olive oil soap, kefiyas, Hebron glass, and more! This is an opportunity to support those in the land where Jesus was born, and to buy meaningful gifts for Christmas, other occasions, and for yourself!
