English Lutheran Church is committed to following public health recommendations and leading by example. Our goal is to gather together as a congregation as much as possible, while protecting the health and well-being of our church family and community. Based on current level of transmission in La Crosse County, the Center for Disease Control is recommending wearing a mask indoors for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. Therefore, recommendations for ELC are: 

The St. Olaf Band is performing at Logan Middle School on October 17 at 3 p.m. This tour’s program, with reverence and hope, features music by Jack Stamp, Eric Ewazen, Edward Elgar, Timothy Mahr, and a premiere of Cathy Likhuta’s Planet B. The band is made up of 89 diverse undergraduate students, and conducted by Dr. Mahr, an award-winning composer/ educator. They were recently awarded the 2021 American Prize for the 2020 tour program "Imagining Peace," which was the band's last live performance before music on campus-and around the world- stopped.

The St. Olaf Band is excited to resume their touring tradition and perform once again for audiences in your community. Tickets are always free for students and $10 for adults. Tickets may be purchased here.

An update from your Call Committee... At the end of this month, the Call Committee will begin face-to-face interviews with candidates for the Senior Pastor position.

The ABCs of Refugee Resettlement from LSS is being offered by Lutheran Social Services on Sunday, October 17 at 3:30 pm. We've all heard a lot in the news about the evacuation of Afghans and many people have questions. Join us on October 17th when staff from Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan present this webinar. You'll learn how the program works, how you can help, and the latest information about the evolving situation of refugees from Afghanistan. Find the ZOOM info for meeting here.

Our Bible Study of John's Gospel has resumed on Thursdays at 6:30pm. We meet in the South Hall in order to keep social distancing. If you are interested but missed Part One, you are welcome to join us for the second half of this class!

(You can also participate in this year's class online if you're more comfortable participating from home during COVID. New classes are posted weekly.) You can select your amount for a one-time or recurring gift, enter your payment method, and submit your donation. The online giving page on our website got a new look as well!

Any previous logins for the app or website will continue to work on the new platforms. If you are currently on the Simply Giving program, these changes do not affect any of your transactions. You can also let Jennifer do the work for you! Download a form for recurring giving, and return it to the church office with a voided check.

As a partner with this event, we have received three free copies of the Waking up White book. Many of the people released from jail don’t have warm clothes to wear. The La Crosse Jail Ministry would like to provide them with something warm to wear. We see this as especially important for those who are being released to homelessness. We are in need of clean and gently used men’s coats, boots, shoes, sweat pants and T-shirts. You may drop donations off here at English in the bins marked for "Jail Ministry."

Sunday Conversations (adult ed) is back beginning October 17! Join us between services in the South Hall.

The nursery is staffed from 6:00-7:45 on for children ages 2 years old - Kindergarten.

Christlers is from 6:00-7:45pm for children 1st-6th grades. Christlers provides a space for devotions, games, crafts, experiments, stories, and more. This is open to anyone! Drop off in the Sunday School hall, Room #111.
