| | | | | Good news! We've made it easier to send information to be announced to our church! Email Erica Ashley, our new Administrative Assistant, at voice@englishlutheran.org. Please add the information you'd like to share, along with your contact information for any questions. From there, we will share information where it fits best: Weekly E-Voice, bimonthly newsletter (every two months), verbal announcements or scrolling screens at worship, or on social media. We'll even create a graphic for you! | | | |
Deadlines:
- Email by Wednesday each week to have things included for weekend worship and the E-Voice
- For our bimonthly newsletter, the deadline is the second Tuesday of the month before it's printed (ie - to include something in the March/April issue, deadline is February 10)
If you have any questions, please reach out to Erica or Jennifer in the church office.
| | | | As we’ve seen over the last weeks, the targeting of our immigrant neighbors is only increasing. Our faith and our church’s social teachings call us to respond, to stand with and support our neighbors, and to step boldly into this moment. If you'd like to help financially, offerings may be given to English Lutheran Church and designated for "Amparo." You may also give online here. Offerings will be split between Minneapolis Area Synod's Welcome Fund and La Crosse Area Synod's Migrant Justice Team, both of which support mutual aid for immigrants and refugees. | | | | | The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks face off on February 8th at the 60th Super Bowl, and ELC Ministry Council is hosting a “Souper Cereal Bowl” to celebrate team and community spirit. Bring non-perishable food items to vote for your favorite team. Donations will support Trinity Lutheran’s food pantry, From the Heart. Suggested items will be available on the display table and online. Click here for a list. The winning team will be determined by the number of items donated, not total weight. Collection bins will be available through Monday, February 9th. | | | | | Pastor Lisa Shank was with us at worship on the weekend of January 17 & 18 and shared a poem during her sermon. From Pastor Lisa... "I don't know where the first poem comes from. Over 30 years ago, a friend gave a framed copy to me. Just doing a search online, most of the sites where the poem is quoted, there is no author citation. One site cited the author as Hazrat Inayat Khan. Maybe Khan is the author, but I cannot be certain." Click here to read the poem and see Pastor Lisa's re-write of it. | | | | | Craft Retreat is February 5-7. Pack up your projects and bring them over to church and spend a great weekend with other crafty people! Sign up at the Welcome Center or email Karen Guptill so we know how many tables are needed. Meals are on your own but feel free to bring a snack to share. (Please note the date changed to Thursday-Saturday instead of Friday-Sunday.) | | | Pictures from the event are now posted! Click here to look through them. | | Bethlehem is stored away and the fellowship hall has been returned to its original configuration. Now its time to celebrate the successfulness of the event and thank those that participated! Please join us in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday February 1 at 5:00pm for a celebration! We'll gather, have dinner together, and a program to follow! RSVP at the Welcome Center and online. The event is open to all volunteers and their family. Without you, the Bethlehem Event would not have happened! | | | | | ELC's Annual Meeting is Sunday, February 8 at noon in the sanctuary. We will have our normal agenda of approving the minutes, financial reports, elections, and Endowment Fund disbursements. In addition, we will talk about changes to our constitution and how our congregation is moving forward in this time of staffing transitions. Please watch for the Annual Report - copies will be available in the narthex soon and online as well when it is finished. | | | | | Christ in Our Home large print edition is not available this quarter. Augsburg Fortress has had some publishing issues and cannot print the large print edition for January-March. Please visit the Welcome Center for a copy of January's daily devotions, or click here. Please watch for more information for February-March daily devotions. Augsburg is working to get the next two months up online. | | | | | Funeral Luncheon Coordinators are needed! This is a very meaningful way to help families in our congregation when they experience the loss of a loved one. Coordinators work with the family and pastors to plan the luncheon, and help coordinate volunteers the day of to set up, serve, and clean up. Coordinators work on a rotating basis. If you're interested in learning more about being a coordinator or a volunteer the day of funerals, please contact Niki Pohnl at 608.317.9971. | | | | | |
Adult Sunday School has begun! Grab your coffee and join us in the South Hall for our first session. Anna Mueller did a great job leading our first class last Sunday. Scott Gabriel will be leading this week. Each class is based on the Sunday lectionary.
We are looking for folks to lead discussion each Sunday. If you'd like more information, contact Scott Gabriel and sign up here to secure a date.
