Good News! Alex is home from the hospital and his recovery is going as planned. We are so thankful for your prayers and for the gifts and talents of the medical team that cared and continue to care for him. The recovery is painful and a long one, so we ask for your unceasing prayers for the Duarte family! If you want to support them during this time you can sign up for a meal train or donate to the Duarte family fund (here) in support of them.
This weekend is Martin Luther King Jr weekend. It is a time to remember the life of the Rev. Dr. King and his legacy in the civil rights movement. His “I Have a Dream” speech from 1963 is still one of the most eloquent speeches/sermons I have ever heard. An interesting fact is that his Martin Luther King Jr. is named after the Lutheran reformer, Martin Luther. Both Martin Luther and Martin Luther King Jr. were reformers, one focused on the church and the other focused on society. Because of the holiday, our youth ministry, BASE Life will not meet this Sunday.
The Annual meeting is coming up at the end of this month (January 28) after our worship services. The 28th will be a Fourth Sunday so we will have the traditional service at 9:00 am and the Family Service at 10:30 am. As we prepare the budget, it is not too late to make a financial commitment to support the mission and ministries of the church. We need a quorum of attendees, so we invite you to plan to join us for the Annual report from 2023 and our vision for the upcoming 2024 year.
Last week we began a journey through the book of Jonah. Last week we tried to place Jonah in history and Nineveh geographically. This week join us as we look at “The Storm” (Jonah 1: 4-10).
