This Sunday's Theme:

"Who Is My Neighbor?"

Luke 10:25-42

In-person and Live Stream to Facebook and YouTube at 10:30 AM

Once an expert in religious law tested Jesus, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus’ answer was simply, “What does the Law say? How do you read it?” The religious expert said “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, strength, and mind. And Love your neighbor as yourself.” That same religious expert wanting to justify himself asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” I think that this question is as pertinent for us today as well. Just who is my neighbor?

As followers of Jesus, the Messiah, we are called to love our neighbor. But the only reason we even have the capability to love is because we are aware of how much God has first loved us. If you look to Jesus as your Savior – if the cross becomes your hope – then you begin to realize how much we need God’s love, grace, and forgiveness.

To desperately need the love of God and to fall to our knees to receive our Savior and his love is very different from knowing the answer to the question. The religious expert understood the law, and he had the right answer to the question. But he didn’t want to allow the Spirit of the Law to work in his heart and his life. God is not interested in our exam scores or how much we know. God really wants to know who we consider our neighbor and to what lengths we will go to serve him or her.

This week we will take a break from Mark’s gospel as we look at this Scripture story from Luke 10: 25-42 and ask the question, “Who is my neighbor?”

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Pastor Steve
