This Sunday's Theme:

"More than Enough!"

John 6:1-21

In-person and Live Stream to Facebook and YouTube at 10:30 AM

Good evening church!

Who is the Breadwinner in your family? Do you have any bread – any money? In our culture when we talk about bread, it often conjures up images of money, work. and earnings. But what if bread is a gift?

Jesus promised us daily bread. This kind of bread you can’t get or earn. What does your “daily bread” consist of - money, wealth, and power? – flour, salt, yeast? Food, clothing, and shelter? Does it have any Jesus – any Scripture – any healing in it? To eat of bread is to eat of a physical and spiritual gift and to know that it comes from God.

This Sunday, after worship, we will have an opportunity to feed 200 people by making sandwiches for the homeless that come to Grace Lutheran Church in Phoenix for a cool respite during the heat of the day. When we prepare these sandwiches, we are not just preparing physical food, but we are also giving them spiritual food and a Christ promise as we pray for each person who will be fed by these meals. If you are able, please join us after worship as we make sandwiches for our neighbors who are without shelter and food. As Martin Luther once wrote, “God doesn’t need our good works, but our neighbor does.”

In the meantime, how can I preach about Jesus feeding the 5000 (John 6: 1-21) if we don’t have bread to eat? Come to worship and we will have a fellowship feast this Sunday, giving thanks for our daily bread – both for the physical food and the spiritual food – all of this provided by Jesus! Remember what Jesus tells his disciples, “there is more than enough.”

I hope to see you Sunday!

Pastor Steve
