Shavuos/Shabbos

May 25-27, 2023

5-7 Sivan 5783

Shalom and hello everyone! I hope you are doing well.

I look forward to greeting you for Chag Shavuos at Ohav Sholom. Join us for two days in shul to celebrate the giving of the Torah!

Our in depth learning during leil tikkun Shavuos is going to be great! We are offering shiurim both on Voting in Halacha, given by yours truly, and Modern Problems in Jewish Education, by Dr. Raphael Kellman. Please see flyers below.

Join us for cheesecake and other delicacies throughout the learning and enjoy a delicious milchig kiddush on Friday morning, first day Yom Tov, including ice cream from Max and Minas.

Thank you Becker family for the great ice cream!

The second day of Yom Tov is also Shabbos. Remember to make an Eiruv Tavshilin on Thursday, Erev Yom Tov.

Reminder, we will recite Yizkor on the second day of Yom Tov (Shabbos.) We anticipate Yizkor to be said at approximately 10:30 AM.

On Shabbos day, we will enjoy a full hot kiddush, complete with cholent, kugel, fruit platter, and more!

WALKING TOUR IN RIVERSIDE PARK

Join member David Goldstick as he takes Ohav Sholom members and friends on an exciting guided walking tour of Riverside Park!

The fun begins at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 25, 2023, as we meet for a complimentary Lunch at Ohav Sholom. Enjoy lox and bagels and other goodies.

At approximately 1:45 PM, we head over to Riverside Park and start the walking tour from the Warshaw Ghetto Uprising Memorial, located at Riverside Drive and West 83rd Street.

David is a world class gardener and Parks Department advocate and volunteer, and has helped develop a large swath of the park into the lush oasis of tranquility and beauty we all enjoy today.

Everyone is invited! Please join and bring a friend.

Dear Member and Friend,

Please join me in celebration of Ohav Sholom on Monday, June 19th, 2023, at our Annual Dinner - to be held this year at the newest and trendiest kosher restaurant on the Upper West Side, Thyme and Tonic

We are delighted to recognize two special couples/congregants:

David and Eliza Gibber, as Keser Torah Awardees, and Stephen and Cynthia Scheinfeld, as Community Service Awardees

Both couples bring energy and elegance to Congregation Ohav Sholom and are stalwart attendees at our daily Daf Yomi Shiur and weekday Minyanim.

I would be honored if YOU would join ME at this year’s Annual Dinner.

Please partner with us and allow Ohav Sholom to continue its holy work on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and beyond - providing Torah, Tefilah, and Chessed, with our signature style of warmth, humor, and deep love for every Jew.

This year, in these trying times, your financial support is critically important.

Therefore, I hope you will join our prestigious Sarei Eleph Donor List to ensure this dinner event is a resounding success!

Please visit our website to make your reservations and generous donation today.

We are truly fortunate to have members Elaine Rubel and Adena Samowitz serving as our Dinner Chairpeople.

May Hashem bless you with outstanding spiritual growth, robust health and wealth, and time to enjoy it!

Have a wonderful Yontiv and Shabbos!

I’ll see you in shul,

Rabbi Aaron D. Mehlman
