Black & Gold Interview

Playground Questions Answered
By: Louis Holthouse and Rory Primm

We interviewed our school’s principal, Kim Pietrocci, and she answered our questions about the new playground structure that was recently constructed.

Students came back from spring break and saw that the old monkey bars had been removed and a new structure was in its place. This structure cost the district a pretty penny. “Its cost was in the upper $30,000,” said Principal Petrocci.

This project has been in the making for a while now, but the plans for our new structure were finalized in November. The reason the school had the old structure removed was because the welding on the old one was failing, and parts were falling off. Sharp pieces of metal endangered students on the monkey bars. Over the course of several years, many students suffered from injuries on the monkey bars and climbing equipment. Many students were hurt by this structure. That is why the school removed that structure to replace it with one that is bigger and badder than any others seen here at Carlos Gilbert.

Principal Pietrocci says that she “had two choices” for the new playground structure, and she chose the bigger option of the two. The construction began over spring break while our school's pupils and staff were away and was a huge surprise for returning students.

The structure was completed a week after students returned from spring break.
We have some great Carlos Gilbert gear! Get your stuff at the online shop :)

The one of a kind tie-die tshirts were hand-dyed by a couple of awesome PTK volunteers and are available in a nice range of sizes.

There are terrific baseball caps and some wild color-changing cups. Chilly lately? Pick up a nice Blackhawks zipper sweatshirt!
Next PTK meeting is April 26 @8:15AM in the teachers' lounge.

Regular PTK meetings for rest of school year: May 17
The PTK would love for parents to attend the last two PTK meetings and consider joining. There are officer positions available to volunteer for and, parents are needed!
