NEWS & UPDATES

This is St. Vincent de Paul Pantry Weekend!

It’s Pantry Weekend! Thank you for your continuous support of our Food Pantry…we appreciate you! Please leave your food donations in the baskets at the exits of the church today after all the Masses, or at the Pastoral Office. For monetary donations, please use the blue St. Vincent de Paul envelopes found in the pews.

The St. Luke St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry operates on an “as needed” basis. Food is available by appointment, rather than on a food distribution day. If you know of anyone in the community in need of food, please have them call (626) 684-2914.

Bunco Party

All parishioners are invited to a fun afternoon of Bunco on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 11:30 am-3:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Cost: $8 per person. Cash prizes to be awarded for games! Door prizes will also be available! A variety of homemade desserts will be served. Never played Bunco before? We’ll teach you how to play in just a few minutes - it’s easy!

An RSVP is appreciated so we know how many guests to plan for. Please call Ann Baziak at (626) 448-8991 (Can leave a message). Sponsored by the St. Luke Family Ministry.

Online Donations: Click here to give electronically one-time or make a recurring gift.

May God Bless You and Your Family for Your Continued Generosity!

Together in Mission 2024 Campaign

“Be Imitators of Christ” is the theme of the 2024 archdiocesan annual appeal, Together in Mission. St. Luke has been asked to raise $55,723 and Archbishop Gomez is inviting every Catholic to make their annual commitment to this year’s campaign.

We look forward to the continued generosity of our parishioners. Funds in excess of the parish goal are returned to the parish. Look for special envelopes in the pews.

Your gifts to Together in Mission ensure that every Catholic living in the Archdiocese has a parish to celebrate their faith and access to a Catholic school education.

If you have not already done so, please prayerfully consider a pledge and donate to Together in Mission. Envelopes are in the pews or you can give online at www.ourmissionla.org/give. If you write a check, please make it payable to Together in Mission. Thank you for your generosity!

LIFE, JUSTICE & PEACE SPOTLIGHT

Help Save Lives by Praying for an End to Abortion

Now Through March 24

40 Days for Life (https://40daysforlife.com/), the world’s largest grassroots movement to end abortion, uses a peaceful approach of prayer, fasting, vigil and community outreach to change hearts and minds. God has used 40 Days for Life to establish a proven track record of saving lives and closing abortion facilities. Since launching in 2007 and rapidly becoming a worldwide movement, 24,242 babies have been saved.

The abortion industry thought it could stamp out 40 Days for Life, especially after Roe v. Wade was overturned just a year and a half ago. It didn't work.

Mail-order abortions, constitutional amendments, intimidation tactics, pharmacy-distributed abortions, and the full weight of the federal government have only increased demand for 40 Days for Life. This Lenten campaign, February 14 through March 24, is the largest 40 Days for Life campaign ever, in 656 cities worldwide.

That number shatters last year's previous record by more than 50 cities, with growth in the U.S., Latin America, AND the rest of the world--even as dozens of abortion facilities have gone out of business. More than 30 abortion facilities where 40 Days for Life vigils were held have CLOSED since Roe v. Wade was overturned just a year and a half ago.

The best confirmation that 40 Days for Life is effective at hurting the bottom line of local abortion facilities comes from the leaders of Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood of Northern California's director of operations admitted to local media that when 40 Days for Life participants stand vigil outside Planned Parenthood facilities, the appointment no-show rate more than doubles. Former Planned Parenthood workers say that the no-show rate for an abortion appointment goes as high as 75% when 40 Days for Life volunteers are outside praying.

The defense of the unborn is ultimately a spiritual battle. The devil does so much to try to distract us away from the One we serve – Jesus Christ. Christ told us some demons can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. These two go hand in hand. Prayer keeps us rooted in the fact that it is our desire to carry out God’s will. Fasting is a sacrifice that helps us reach beyond our own limitations with God’s help. Knowing that “with God, all things are possible,” people of faith and conscience unite in 40 days of prayer and fasting.

As you begin to think about how you might pray or fast more during Lent, consider joining the powerful life-saving work to end abortion and SAVE MORE LIVES! Perhaps you can offer a few hours during this Lenten 40 Days for Life campaign, now through March 24, to stand peacefully and pray as a witness to life.

Our vigil site is the public right-of-way outside Planned Parenthood El Monte at 4786 N. Peck Road, El Monte (corner of Peck and Lower Azusa). Hours are 7:00 am and 7:00 pm daily during the 40-day vigil. Sign up for specific hours at https://www.40daysforlife.com/en/elmonte, or just show up!

Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid,

Mary, for you have found favor with God.

Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,

and you shall name him Jesus."

-Luke 1:30-33

God, we ask you to be with every expectant mother.

Give them the courage of Mary to say yes to your Divine Will,

even in the most unexpected circumstances. Help us to notice women

in need and embrace every mother facing an unplanned pregnancy.

Amen.
