LIFE, JUSTICE & PEACE SPOTLIGHT

The Beauty and Joy of Love in the Family
The first and fundamental structure for a "human ecology" is the family . . . founded on marriage, in which the mutual gift of self as husband and wife creates an environment in which children can be born and develop their potentialities, become aware of their dignity, and prepare to face their unique and individual destiny. (St. John Paul II, On the Hundredth Year [Centesimus Annus], no. 39)
On March 19, 2021, the Church celebrated the fifth anniversary of the publication of Pope Francis’s apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia, on the beauty and joy of love in the family. On this same day, Pope Francis launched the year “Amoris Laetitia Family,” which will conclude on June 26, 2022, during the X Meeting of Families in Rome with the Holy Father.
Pope Francis announced the year of “Amoris Laetitia Family” during his Angelus Message on the Feast of the Holy Family on December 27, 2020. He ended his address invoking the Blessed Mother, “May the Virgin Mary grant that families throughout the world be increasingly fascinated by the evangelical ideal of the Holy Family, so as to become a leaven of [a] new humanity and of a genuine and universal solidarity.”

-
Accompanying Families in Need: In this Year of Amoris Laetitia Family, the Holy Father has asked Church leaders to broaden their vision of family ministry to include the different generations of families and those families whose struggles place them on the peripheries. The Church is called to accompany married couples and families throughout the joys and hardships of life. This section contains information and resources on a variety of topics to help families through the difficulties of life.
-
The Apostolate of Family Love: The Church is a “family of families” (AL 87) and is charged with the duty to enable families to become active agents of the family apostolate. To this end, “an effort at evangelization and catechesis inside the family” is required since a family of disciples turns into a missionary family (see AL, 200). This section includes information on the Domestic Church, family life and prayer and responsible parenthood.
-
The Gift of Marriage: This section includes resources and information on the Sacrament of Marriage, the Theology of the Body and Natural Family Planning.
-
Sharing the Joy of Love with Youth and Young Adults: This section has links to programs and resources to help young people grow in their awareness of the importance of a Christian formation in the truth of love and in the gift of self.
-
I am Church: During the Amoris Laetitia Family Year, a series of videos on the faith and ecclesial involvement of persons with disabilities will be made available.
The long-range future of our nation is intimately linked with the well-being of families, for the family is the most basic form of human community. Insofar as it is a "small-scale Church," the Christian family is called upon, like the "large- scale Church," to be a sign of unity for the world and in this way to exercise its prophetic role by bearing witness to the Kingdom and peace of Christ.
Amid a secular culture that is threatening to destroy the sanctity of family, let us embrace Pope Francis’ initiative, “Amoris Laetitia Family,” and truly celebrate and elevate the family and family life.
"Holy Family of Nazareth, make us once more mindful of the sacredness and
inviolability of the family and its beauty in God's plan." (Amoris Laetitia, 325)

The Truth Comes Out!
Vox Vitae invites you to a pre-screening of a new movie. Come to see this showing of ROE V. WADE to learn the true story about how abortion was legalized in our country. The movie reveals how the case was really decided. Filmmaker Nick Loeb, actor and director of Roe v. Wade, says the film is “not a preachy, pro-life religious movie.” Rather, it tells the truth of the case. The film features actors Jon Voight, Corbin Bernsen, John Schneider and Stacy Dash.
The movie will be shown on Friday, March 26, at 7:00 pm in the church parking lot of St. Therese Catholic Church, 1100 E. Alhambra Road, Alhambra CA 91801. There will be a vegetarian pizza dinner. Dress warm and bring a chair. There is no charge to attend, although free-will offerings will be accepted.

We thank our St. Luke parishioners who have been praying and fasting for an end to abortion during this 40 Days for Life campaign (https://40daysforlife.com/). The current campaign ends on March 28.
Please consider joining with others from St. Luke and neighboring parishes to peacefully pray (wearing a mask and socially distanced) in the public right-of-way outside Planned Parenthood El Monte, at 4786 N. Peck Road (corner of Peck and Lower Azusa) during the remainder of this 40-day vigil.
We also want to celebrate! Join us at 3:00 pm TODAY, Sunday, March 21, at Peck and Lower Azusa for a Mid-Point Rally to praise God for the Gift of Life. There will be a special guest singer.
