NEWS & UPDATES

40 Days for Life Fall Campaign Begins on September 25

The fall campaign of 40 Days for Life, forty days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion, begins this week, on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Please consider joining others from St. Luke and neighboring parishes to stand and peacefully pray in the public right-of-way outside Planned Parenthood El Monte at 4786 N. Peck Road. (corner of Peck and Lower Azusa) during the 40-day vigil. Hours are 7:00 am-7:00 pm daily, Wednesday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Nov. 3.

Please visit the tables this Sunday, Sept. 22, after all Masses, for information about 40 Days for Life and how you can sign up to participate. There will also be information about how our local Pregnancy Help Center of San Gabriel Valley supports pregnant women as an important alternative to abortion.

Lightshine Choir to Resume – New Members Welcome!

Greetings in Christ! We are excited once again to announce that our Lightshine Choir, that sings at our 10:30 am Mass on Sundays, will resume on Sunday, Sept. 29, and have resumed rehearsals.

For those who have sang in the choir in the past, of course, you are welcome and encouraged to join us as we begin a new season of fellowship, shared love of Christ, and a mission to pray the Mass through singing.

There may be those who have never been in this (or any) choir but have been interested in possibly becoming a choir member. We would love to have you come to an information meeting on Sunday, Sept. 22, at noon in the choir loft so that we can share with you what is involved and expected from choir members. Current choir members are encouraged to join that conversation as well. You can also speak to me after the 10:30 am Mass on Sunday if you prefer. We hope you will join us and look forward to meaningful, fun, and musical experiences together! -Frederick Johnson, Lightshine Choir Director and Organist

The Living Rosary

October is the month of the Rosary. Our parish will have a Living Rosary on Saturday, Oct. 5, after the 5:30 pm Mass in the Plaza. The purpose of the Living Rosary is to unite the parish in this very powerful prayer and to ask our Blessed Mother's intercession to bring FAITH, LOVE and PEACE to the world. In the Living Rosary, each participant not only prays the Rosary but helps to perform one. Each person serves as a bead while praying the Rosary as a group. You can say it in your own language.

If you would like to be an active participant in saying the Rosary, please call the Pastoral Office at (626) 291-5900 by Friday, Sept. 27, to sign up. Let’s all pray the rosary not only in the month of October but everyday!

Blessing of the Animals

On Sunday, Oct. 6, 1:45-2:45 pm, we will celebrate the blessing of the animals in honor of the feast of St. Francis (4 October). It will be drive-thru style: enter the parking lot via Cloverly, roll down your windows for the blessing and a prayer card, exit via Broadway with your blessed animals!

St. Vincent Bundle Sunday

Our parish is hosting a Bundle Sunday for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Sunday, Oct. 13, 8:30 am-2:00 pm. Please bring your usable clothing and usable household items to their truck here at our church in the North Parking Lot. They are also in need of all furniture and large appliances that can be arranged for a special pick up at your home by calling 1-800-974-3571. Thank you for your continued support!

Halloween Fun Night – Donations Requested

The St. Luke Family Ministry will host its 12th Annual Halloween Fun Night on Saturday, Oct. 19. For people of all ages, it will feature trick-or-treating; cupcake decorating; games and family fun; a GIANT slide; disco dancing; and hamburgers, hot dogs and nachos to purchase! Come to the 5:30 pm Mass, in costume, and enjoy a wonderful Halloween-themed evening afterward.

We are seeking donations of Halloween candy to help defray the costs. Donations may be dropped off at the Pastoral Office. We appreciate your support!
