In the news
Sam Ames takes the OFC helm
After a careful search, Our Family Coalition's Board of Directors and outgoing Executive Director Renata Moreira are thrilled to announce the appointment of Sam Ames, Esq., as OFC's Interim Executive Director.

“We couldn’t be more pleased that Sam was as eager to work with OFC as we were eager to work with them,” said Moreira. “Sam has had many years of experience working in the LGBTQ movement and is very familiar with OFC’s work. I am thrilled to be passing the baton to them, a skilled and passionate advocate, to co-lead our next chapters with our brilliant board and team.”

Sam comes to Our Family Coalition most immediately from Trans Lifeline, where they served as Interim Executive Director for over a year while the organization conducted its own transition to their new Executive Director.

East Bay events: summer hiatus, fall reboot

In late spring funding for East Bay programs was in jeopardy. But advocacy on our part, as well as testimony our behalf by community members and leadership from Oakland City Council President Rebecca Kaplan, enabled funding from the City Council to be established, with unanimous support!

The impact is that for July and August, our East Bay-based programming will be on a summer break.

We'll return to programming with our can't-miss  OFC Family Garden at the Oakland LGBTQ Festival! Please save the date to join us there on Sunday, September 8th .

Community Announcements
Regardless of how the courts ultimately rule on the Trump administration attempts to undercount Latinx community, mistrust of the whole process has been duly sown. We'll be partnering with Equality California and others this summer and throughout 2020 to ensure that every California resident who can be, is counted.

A question about LGBTQ+ identity, which would have been the first such, was struck from the 2020 census by the Trump administration. But LGBTQ+ couples living together can still be counted, in a question regarding their relationship to other members in their household. That's a far cry from counting all of us, but it's a start.
