GERANIUMS ORDERS DUE SUNDAY – Orders are being taken for red geraniums to be placed in the church on Pentecost Sunday, May 24 (next Sunday). Fill out the pink order form in the rear of the church and return to any Altar Guild member listed on the form, place in a sealed envelope in the offering plate, or drop off in the church office. The cost is $10.00 per plant (in a six-inch pot). Payment must accompany your order. The deadline for orders is SUNDAY. Geranium plants can be picked up next Sunday, Pentecost Sunday (May 24) after the 10:15 A.M. service or given to the church to be planted.
MAY FOOD SALE ORDERS DUE SUNDAY – The Catering Committee is sponsoring a soup, sandwich, and baked stuffed shells dinner sale for May. The order forms are blue and due back SUNDAY. Pick-up will be on Saturday (May 23) from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. The sandwich choice is a Monte Cristo sandwich. Soup choices are: black bean soup, French onion soup, and seafood chowder. You can also purchase heat-and-eat baked stuffed shells dinners. Return order forms to Harrison Williams. RELIGIOUS DAY – The Northern Lehigh America 250 Committee will have a “Religious Day”, multi-denominational religious service on Sunday (May 17) at 2:00 P.M. at St. John’s U.C.C., Slatington. All are welcome to attend!
PENTECOST IS NEXT SUNDAY – WEAR RED! The Pentecost event happened among the gathered disciples and they were filled with the Holy Spirit, but it did not end there. Disciples or Followers of Jesus have been filled with the Holy Spirit ever since. Pentecost is the birthday of the Christian church as we know it. It is also the beginning of the green season of the church; a time where, as we see the greening of the trees, grasses, and plants, we also can work toward our own greening in our faith toward God and in our service toward one another. It is a season that challenges us to see our own gifts of the Spirit and to put them to use for the good of all people. Don’t forget to wear red next Sunday, May 24, as we welcome the Spirit into our midst.

KIDS PACK DONATIONS – We are collecting juice boxes plus single serve jello and single-serve pudding (non-refrigerated) for the “Kids Packs” to be given to clients of the Northern Lehigh Food Bank this summer when school is not in session. Please bring all donations to the church by Sunday, June 7. We need 150 individual pieces of each item. So far we have 50 jello cups, 140 juice boxes, and 96 pudding cups.
CRAFT SUPPLY DONATIONS NEEDED as follows:
For Vacation Bible School: Green tissue paper and Rolls of Kraft paper (see sample in Fellowship Hall)
For Breakfast Bunch: Empty paper towel rolls Empty wrapping paper rolls
Donations can be placed in the container in the Fellowship Hall. Donations are needed by Sunday, June 7.
BREAKFAST BUNCH – We will again host the Breakfast Bunch this summer to feed the local children while school is out for the summer. Volunteers are needed Monday-Friday, June 15-August 21, from 8:00 to 10:00 A.M. You can volunteer one day this summer, one day per week, one week this summer, or however it works for your schedule. Volunteer duties include: registration table, pouring juice and milk, working the toaster/toaster oven, making sandwiches, keeping food refilled on the buffet line, and clean-up. Monetary donations or gift cards to groceries stores in the Lehigh Valley are always appreciated.
SECOND CHANCE SHOPPE NEEDS HELP! As you all know, the Second Chance Shoppe contributes money to St John's but also to many non-profit organizations in the area. Last year alone the board of directors donated $46,592.75 because of the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. But more important than the monetary donations the Shoppe provides clothing, toys, household items, and seasonal decorations at prices families in need in our community can afford.
However, we have hit a bump in the road where quite a few of our weekly volunteers are unable to help due to illnesses or because they are caregivers. We are asking the parishioners of St. John's to consider donating a few hours of time to help this community outreach program. Tuesday through Friday we have three-hour shifts and Saturday a four-hour shift. Board members or seasoned volunteers will help you acclimate to the routine of the Shoppe.

Thank you in advance for considering how you might use your hands to do God's work. Volunteering will enable us to continue doing God's work in our community which began 62 years ago.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – This year’s Vacation Bible School (“VBS”) theme is “Rainforest Falls – Exploring the Nature of God.” Bible School will be held Monday, July 13, through Friday, July 17, from 6:00 to 8:30 P.M. VBS is for children age 3 (by July 1) up to and including Grade 6. To make this VBS a great experience for our children, we
are looking for adults and teens to help each night or for one or two nights, whichever works with your schedule. Please sign up at the display in the Fellowship Hall, at the Parent Information Center in the education wing, or on the rear radiator covers in the church. 2026 ENVELOPES are in the Fellowship Hall on a cabinet near the front steps for pick-up. The offering envelopes are expensive to mail so please go to the Fellowship Hall after church to pick up your envelopes or those of a friend, neighbor, or relative.
VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION FORM – We are in need of more volunteers to assist with worship services and in different ministries around the church. There is a physical registration form located on the ushers’ table at the back of the sanctuary. You're invited to look at the list of volunteer opportunities and consider which roles are of most interest to you. If you have children or grandchildren in the congregation, please see the special section with volunteer opportunities for our youngest members.
