Dear Friends,

I hope that you had a chance to catch a break over the summer, and renew your spirits. In the US, Labor Day marks the unofficial beginning of autumn and the school season. This year will definitely look different, as schools reopen in limited ways, some with smaller class sizes, some in a virtual format, and some in a hybrid version.

At HVO, the education continues in some innovative and exciting ways. Different project sites have approached distance learning in a variety of ways, with real-time e-lectures on Skype and Zoom, recorded classes on PowerPoint, and Q & A sessions via WhatsApp. As we all adjust to the “new normal” and countries begin to open slightly, there is increasing interest from our project sites for e-volunteering assignments. If you are interested in sharing your skills this way, please contact us at: info@hvousa.org.

I also want to share the good news that wild poliovirus has been eradicated from the African continent! This has been the result of a committed effort, involving global partners from around the world. That leaves just two countries (Pakistan and Afghanistan) where wild poliovirus continues to exist. Congratulations to those who have made such a concerted effort to rid the world of this disease.

Best wishes for a safe and healthy fall!

Sincerely,
Nancy
