The Judges, John Reth, Michael Spencer and Diane Whitley, had difficult choices to make, but awarded 1 st place prizes to the following participants:

K-8 Winning group was Izzy Baker, Miya Bumroongchart and Mallory Teh for their vocal trio, “High Hopes”

9-12 Winner was Kipper Sherlock, with his vocal solo, “How Can I Keep From Singing”
Thanks to all of the participants, ASB Officers and Sponsors, Mr. & Mrs. Martinez for a terrific evening.
Blue takes her class for a trip on the tracks
Last week my class went to Los Angeles on the Amtrak train. That morning, I got up at 6:00 AM and went to meet my class in Oceanside where the Amtrak picked us up. We were early so we had to wait, but that didn’t matter to us because we were just way too excited!

When we got on the train we were prepared for the two hour trip to L.A. We had lots of fun discussing where we were going and what we were going to eat 10 hours in advance! The train was very nice and even served food! It was a fairly sunny day, and we drove right along the beach. The view was amazing!

When we got off the train, we got on our bus to the Natural History Museum. We saw a dinosaur exhibit and so many skeletons! We also saw a show about dinosaurs that taught us how a Tyrannosaurus Rex hunted. I took pictures of the animal exhibits and I loved the Gem and Mineral Vault. There was also an exhibit all about birds.

At the California Science Center, we rode the ‘High Wire Bike.’ The employee described it as a 1 inch cord, a 60 foot drop, and a red bicycle. What could go wrong?! We also saw the Endeavor which is a giant space shuttle inside the museum! There was a lot of marine life and other animals. My favorite part was ‘Shipwrecked Beach’ which was a team building room where they had challenges and games.

After dinner at Olvera Street, we walked to the Union Station and boarded the train. We were all tired, but in a good way. I got to bed at exactly 10:00 pm! Even though we got home late, it was a great day!

EAA Throws a Birthday Party for Dr. Seuss
A party was happening on campus that day,
The visitors wanted to eat, read and play.
The children wore jammies and house slippers, too
To honor a man who created Seuss’s zoo!

As students all settled down for a read,
They opened their books and there was magic, indeed.
In Red & White stripe there was Cat in the Hat,
While Thing One and Thing Two just wanted a nap.
When feeding a crowd a birthday-time feast
Just an ordinary cake would not satisfy in the least.
Instead, in Ms. Z’s class there was Green Eggs and (veggie) Ham
And, who ate the most?  Why of course, Sam, I Am!
Christmas or Birthday, the Grinch does not care,
If presents are nearby, you’d best be Beware!

Oh, the places children go when they open a book,
Inspiration is found to turn the next page and look.
Thank you, dear teachers, for helping us see
That reading is special, it is special indeed!
