Dear friends,

What a month we have had at the EACC... from our record-breaking SUSTAIN symposium, hosted by R.A Jones, to our (also record-breaking) 2025 Annual Gala, and all the events around them (Portuguese Ambassador breakfast, EY Geopolitical presentation, YP Operations Showcase at TQL Stadium).

People need people. And while networking may not be at the top of most people's list of favorite things to do, it does become a source of joy and true value when you find your people. That is what the EACC is to us. A valued and indeed treasured community that provides support and stability even in the most uncertain of times.

Nicole & Claudia

"You know, people talk about this being an uncertain time. You know, all time is uncertain. I mean, it was uncertain back in - in 2007, we just didn't know it was uncertain. It was - uncertain on September 10th, 2001. It was uncertain on October 18th, 1987, you just didn't know it."

BREAKING NEWS

Received 5/29/25 at 11 AM from our Friends at Fifth Third Bank:

A recent federal court ruling has major implications for U.S. trade policy and global business strategy.

The court found that the Trump administration exceeded its authority by using emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose broad “Liberation Day” tariffs on imports. These tariffs were intended to counter perceived unfair foreign trade practices but were ruled unconstitutional due to lack of a qualifying national emergency and Congressional approval.

What This Means:

  • The tariffs are now blocked.
  • Importers may be eligible for refunds.
  • The administration is exploring other legal tools (e.g., Section 232 and 301) to pursue trade actions.

Why It Matters:

  • This ruling could bring greater stability to trade policy.
  • It reduces the risk of sudden cost increases for importers and consumers.
  • It reaffirms that Congress—not the executive branch—controls long-term trade policy.

The administration may appeal, and Congress could still act to authorize new tariff powers. In the meantime, businesses should prepare for a more rules-based trade environment.
