EAGLE WEEKLY
SMA HIGH SCHOOL
FROM OUR ASSISTANT HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear SMA Cadets,

I am very excited to announce we have added two new clubs at SMA. The first club is a partnership with the non-profit organization Unidos Now , which means Together Now in English. The purpose of the club Unidos Now is to educate and inform our latino student population about the following: post-secondary education with exposure to tours and fairs; leadership development and engagement; scholarship information; and, community service opportunities. Members from the club meet every other Friday during lunch in room #22. If any cadet is interested in becoming a member, don’t hesitate to contact the President of Unidos Now club Regimental Commander Jonathan Barroso and/or Advisor SMA-MAJ McClaugherty.

The second club is called ALAS , which means Wings in English.  ALAS stands for Aspiring Latinos that are Achieving Success. The purpose of ALAS is for students to connect and build a community of lifelong learners. At the gatherings, cadets can assist each other in their academic endeavors, as well as work on SAT and ACT preparation and registration.  ALAS members will also benefit from leadership development and field trips that will expose them to college and professional careers. The ALAS club will meet two or three times a week in room #3002. Additionally, ALAS is open to all SMA cadets, making it a great option for cadets who wish to learn more about Caribbean and Latin American cultures and practice Spanish and Portuguese languages. If interested in becoming an ALAS member, don’t hesitate to contact Advisor SMA-CPT Meadows.

Sincerely,
Dr. Catherine Rodriguez
Assistant Head of School

PS: Reminder that the end of the grading period is October 15.

Sinceramente,
Dra. Catherine Rodriguez
Directora Asistente
