EAGLE WEEKLY
SMA HIGH SCHOOL
FROM ADMINISTRATION

Happy Friday SMA families!

Although February is the shortest month of the year, our school calendar is absolutely jam packed!

Next week, SMA will be going through the accreditation process with AdvancEd. This happens every 5 years and is imperative to our school's continued growth and improvement. The accreditation team will be on campus Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the spirit of community and celebrating diversity, there is an essay contest in reference to Black History Month. Winners of the essay contest can receive a 4-year college scholarship. For more information,  click here . In addition, International Heritage Week will be occurring March 11-14.

We piloted online student scheduling with a small group today and it went extremely well. Look for students to come home with course request sheets in the next week.

As always, take the weekend to rest, relax and enjoy family time!

RIFLE TEAM NEWS

The SMA Rifle Team pulled off a huge upset in Alabama and earned another Army Regional Championship! This team was a very young team, with 1 senior, 1 junior and 4 sophomores and 4 freshmen. They were led by senior Cat Taylor. Cat also earned 4th place overall and the team effort included Dante Aletto, Guadalupe Perez, Isabella Ponce and Xavier Olson.

In the Sporter Class, Sophia Olazabal led the way and was supported by Carsyn Band, Kendall Goebel, Phillip Pellegrino and Andersen Suter.

What a great deal of experience along with many lessons learned for the future; not just on the range but in the classroom and in life! So proud of how this team continues to grow and perform with the tradition of excellence that SMA Rifle Team is known for. Go Eagles!
ORIENTEERING NEWS

The SMA Orienteering Team competed at a JROTC Orienteering Meet on February 2nd at North Port High School walking away with its first medal winner of the season. Cadet Natalie Marino captured 3rd place on the Novice course running against over 40 other JROTC cadets from throughout all of southwest Florida. The team is competing in several more events this winter and continues to improve. Orienteering is a worldwide sport that began in Scandinavia and is highly competitive in all of JROTC service branches. Good luck on your Venice Meet tomorrow! Go Eagle Orienteers!
