Industry Leaders Collaborate at 2013 EASNA Institute

to Offer Solutions to Six Biggest Needs of EAPs

YREKA, Calif., April 18, 2013 - EAP researchers Dr. Tom Amaral, Dr. Dave Sharar, and Dr. Mark Attridge will take the stage at the 2013 EASNA Institute in Chicago to describe the six most pressing needs of the EAP industry within the U.S. and Canada, and explain how new advances in technology and analytics can help solve them.

All three presenters are members of EASNA's Knowledge Transfer & Research (KTR) Committee, and they have combined their collective 70 years of EAP research and program evaluation experience to identify the top six issues facing the EAP field today. Taking place on Thursday, May 2 at 10:30 a.m., their 90-minute presentation titled,

"Advancing the EAP Field by Applying Innovations in Technology and Predictive Analytics" will describe these issues in detail and then provide specific strategies and recommendations on how to enhance EAPs through application of new technologies and analytic methods.  The presentation will conclude with a highly interactive question and answer period.

"Innovations in technology and analytics are profoundly changing the way businesses operate all over the world," Dr. Amaral said.  "The EAP field can take advantage of these incredible opportunities to solve many of its current issues and to advance itself in entirely new ways."

Tom Amaral, Ph.D., is President & CEO of EAP Technology Systems Inc.  A research psychologist who has been evaluating EAPs for more than 30 years, Dr. Amaral is a recognized expert on ROI, workplace outcomes, benchmarking, and demonstrating business value.  He has conducted training seminars on a variety of advanced topics, including how to make the business case for EAPs, how to calculate ROI, and how to perform benchmarking.  Combining his EAP research and outcomes knowledge with recent innovations in technology and analytics, he has created an all-new software platform called EAP Connect™.  This new technology has been designed to advance the field by enabling EAPs to determine data-driven best practices, to implement program quality improvements, and to provide a seamless continuum of care for employees and family members.

Dave Sharar, Ph.D., is Managing Director of Chestnut Global Partners, a provider of international employee assistance, expatriate support, and crisis intervention abroad.  He is also a research scientist with Chestnut's Division of Commercial Science where he deploys scientific methodologies to help EAP firms and other workplace health programs evaluate their effectiveness.  Dr. Sharar has published over 70 articles in peer reviewed journals and trade magazines.  In partnership with Dr. Richard Lennox, he co-developed the Workplace Outcome Suite (WOS), a tool used by over 400 EAPs to measure effectiveness.

Mark Attridge, Ph.D., M.A., is a social psychologist and research consultant in independent practice as President of Attridge Consulting, Inc.  He has experience with a range of employee health management services but has been most active in the field of workplace mental health, with EAPs in particular.  He was the co-recipient of the "2009 EASNA Member of the Year" award for writing and editing the 2009 EASNA report, "Selecting and Strengthening Employee Assistance Programs: A Purchasers Guide."  Dr. Attridge has authored more than 100 articles and conference papers on topics in health care, psychology, and communication.
