Topic:

Overview of the EAP CIR Multi-Systemic Resiliency Approach

Description:

MSRA is a critical incident response approach designed specifically for Employee Assistance Programs. This crisis intervention approach rose within the EAP field in answer to the rising controversy regarding the clinical efficacy of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation's CISM model in the late 1990 s. Up until that point CISM was marketed to and utilized by EAPs as the standard CIR model. While the founders of CISM argued vehemently against the mounting criticisms, it led to one major concession- that CISM is a first responder model and all other impacted populations should consider a civilian model-Psychological First Aid (Mitchell, 2004).

This statement from the developer of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) model, in my view, was the turning point in EAP for CIR services. In 2013, EAP CIR MSRA book was released and an EAP centric model that focused on safety, resilience, and the multiple populations served by EAPs was released. It continues to be a popular choice within the International EAP industry.
