Teen Substance Abuse 101


Description:

According to the CDC, 15% of high school students reported having ever used

select illicit or injection drugs. This staggering number of teens highlights the need for us to be keenly aware of contributing factors, signs and symptoms, and treatment options. This presentation will identify contributing factors in teen substance use, how parents and

professionals can detect substance use, and the ways in which substance use can be treated in the teen population.

Goals:

  1. By the end of this presentation participants will be able to explain adolescent substance abuse
  2. By the end of this presentation participants will have a greater appreciation of the challenges of treating substance abuse


Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify 10 warning signs of adolescent substance use
  2. Participants will be able to name two contributing factors to adolescent substance use


Bio:

Heather earned her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University, a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University, and is certified as an Eating Disorder Specialist Supervisor. Heather draws on her 16 years of clinical and operational experience in the behavioral healthcare industry to develop and lead strategic planning initiatives to improve client outcomes and organizational health.
