Welcome to our July e-Newsletter!
On June 21st we officially welcomed the summer solstice, yet who can believe it's already August 1st. Mother Nature has certainly brought many challenges to our doorsteps this year (heatwaves, wildfires, tornados and heavy rains to name a few) leaving us to wonder what else might be in store for the road ahead. Regardless of our individual circumstances, we must all do our part to stay informed and be prepared to safeguard against not only the elements, but from individuals who would act inappropriately to take advantage of us or do us harm.
EAPO applies that 'need to be prepared' lens to all that we undertake. Our staff team is working hard, organizing new educational workshops, training forums, conferences and community events. And while we've celebrated WEAAD and a number of awareness raising milestones, there's so much more in store. The calendar is loaded with new learning opportunities, featuring new speakers/presenters on a variety of topics, to foster connections with community partners and beyond.
This is the Year of Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World... and we invite you to join us, whether visiting our website to learn of developments in the field of aging, or gather important resources, subscribe to our newsletters to stay informed, or follow us on social media, participate in our provincial webinars, or consider volunteering with a local Elder Abuse Prevention Network in your community.
Together we CAN make a difference and stop the abuse. By adding your voice and taking a stand against ageism, the root cause of elder abuse, we can help ensure that human rights of seniors remain a priority in Canada and are protected for generations to come.
Enjoy the summer and as the song says, see you in September!
